Default jtpaintballwdp's '92 Build

Alright, so I'm finally piecing together parts for another turbo build for my '92 Mariner.

I guess since I don't have all of the parts yet, I'll go in to a little history behind the car.

For the first bit of the history, I dont have any pics... I wish I did so everyone could see how the car started. My step dad restored Datsuns for a long time before moving over a claims adjuster at Nationwide. One day a totaled '92 Miata had come in and he decided to buy it because it was fixable. He ended up getting it for $200 it had pretty extensive damage to the drivers rear but he knew what he was looking at and knew he could fix it pretty easy and get back on the road for cheap.

Long story short he fixed it, used Tokico blues and Tokico lowering springs instead of buying OEM or OEM replacements, Tire Rack special wheel tire combo, HD dual diag. roll bar, and a fresh respray. It came out looking like this:
(these are more recent photos, but it hadn't changed up until the point these pics were taken)

After the car was finished my mom drove it for a few years, and sold it to one of her good friends.

During that time, I was driving my '82 Datsun 280zx which I had big plans for... Alas I was in high school and not making much money so the car ended up rusting to the point of no return before I could do much with it.(few crappy pics)

Once I had realized my dreams for the Datsun were not going to happen (and how I'd much rather have a 240z) I bought a 240sx. Swapped a SR20DET, did some suspension work and a few go fast mods. It was a fun car and some times i wish I still had it but dealing with VA emissions after "my" emissions guy left was just a pain in the ***. I sold it to some dude in Florida, and went back to driving the Datsun for a few months.

In this time (couple of years) I had learned that my moms friend had not driven the Miata but 2500 miles so I asked her if I could buy it back, and she sold it to me. Kind of sucks because I know what the original car cost but I ended up getting it for $2400 and I think my mom ended up selling to her for around $3k so over all not to bad.

More to come.

After driving the Miata stock for a while, I realized it was time for more power. I bought a used Greddy kit for $700 along with a FMIC from CXracing.

I don't think I have any pics with the turbo installed but it was a standard Greddy, so nothing special. I thought the car ran well and drove it around like that for a while... At least until the car felt slow again.

To resolve this I thought band-aids would be a good idea... So I bought a Walbro 190 HP, some NB injectors, BIPES and a BEGi RRFPR. Well that didn't last long because I realized that MS was the way to go, so I sold all of that...

...and bought a STi...

IMG_3419 by heeblehob, on Flickr

I drove the STi for almost exactly one year. I would probably still have it but my girlfriend and I bought a condo, and I wasn't going to be able to afford payments on the STi and mortgage at the same time. Sold the STi and went back to the Miata.

As it sits today

Pretty much stock, changed out the tire rack specials for some Gen.2 15x8 6ULs with 205/50-15 Dunlop Star Specs

(pics when I get home)

Plans:

DIYPNP MS - Installed
SR20 t25 - Sitting in garage
ARTech EWG Manifold and downpipe
ARTech 3" exhaust
ARTech Oil and water lines
TiAL EWG
CXracing FMIC/Ebay DIY pipe kit
1.8l LSD
550cc injectors
Reroute of some sort
ACT or FM clutch
949racing 11" Wilwood kit
Touge Run front lip
More stuff I'm probably forgetting at the moment.

ps - Most of this is being done classified style, so don't be surprised if there are no updates for a while.

Would like to see it sitting on the 6ul's. Also get a nice lip for that thing, that does so much for the look of the car.

Otherwise your plans look solid.

I'm going to take a few shots of the car when I get home. Car is horrifically dirty right now =(

I do want to grab a lip, not sure what yet. I might get a R package rep. I thought about the GarageVary rep. but I think I want something a bit more subtle.

Here are a couple more current pics. Don't mind how dirty the car is as you can see my sub division is still under construction. I drove the car once when the road was still wet, and that's how dirty it got.

These were just some quick shots i took on the way home, happened to have my camera with me.

Small update to my build.

Got my Brain Build DIYPNP in on Thursday. Hooked everything up (i think) on Sunday, but no start. Hopefully going to figure that out tonight.

So once I get my car up and running on MS I'm going to buy some injectors. I was thinking about going with RC550s, but after reading it seems the ID725 are pretty much amazing.

So is it worth the price over RCs (used) to grab the IDs for better idle(and more fuel)? It will probably be more injector than I will ever use, but it would be nice to have the head room if I ever decided to get crazy...

Yay! So after some help from Scott, the MS is up and running (ignition capture was set to rising edge, when it should have been falling edge).

I was able to do some auto-tuning in TS a little last night and this morning and the car is running so much better. I need to dial in a few more things but over all am very happy with it.

Next up: Injectors.

Any opinions on RC550s VS ID725s? I hear the IDs idle much much better, but the 550s are much much cheaper.

The consensus is that Injector Dynamics are the best. I got ID1000s but never had any issues idling cleaned RX-7 550s.

sure you wont have issues with even shittier rx7 550s, but they arent as good; no where in the same league. not as easy to idle, not as efficient as a spray, not as dynamically balances and not as impressive to your friends.

I think I'm leaning towards the IDs... Once I have the funds of course...

Sent an email to Abe @ ARTech, hopefully getting a manifold and down pipe fabricated soon!

Also decided to go T3 china charger (same as Scott's) over the SR T25.
