Just a guestimate. I think andrew did it for $9k? Add a getrag swap, nuts and bolts, other things?

I have no personal experience. Just what I thought it would cost me after pricing it out one time.

Either way. Its not a $1200 swap lol.

You already have a great setup, why switch?

I was thinking of sticking with my torsen as the plan would be a stock k24a2 for at least a year or so after the swap, minus the getrag kit and the getrag itself, it would just be a different driveshaft I think. Distribute cost over time, no?

My rationale is in its infancy so input is appreciated. I want to switch up because 1.) I have ease of access to a BMW tranmissions. 2.) K24 is worlds ahead of a BP, having driven a k24 EG civic, I loved the power delivery. And have decent access to my choice of K series motors. 3.) I can make up probably 1/2 or 2/3 of the costs (heavily estimated after talking to people that have done a Kmiata using a stock trans) 4.) I don't have a 6spd yet or the shifter upgrade to said 6spd, that's a $1000 adventure right there.

Ect.

I mean, it depends entirely on goals you know. If you're building something up for track use then the cost comparison can be more compelling for the k swap, especially when you factor in heat management into the equation.

But if you're like Aidan and build a ton of **** yourself, then a swap is relatively more expensive since I'm not sure he'd want to sit down and figure out how to redo everything K-miata did or blatantly rip off their design even if its for his own use.

I have very low fabrication skills. The bolt-in solution is incredibly appealing.

Got a quote to fix the Maxima. Said for $9000, checked out the copy of the parts list versus what I saw on the car. Immedeiately saw cracked engine mounts and my front wheel is slightly bent. Nowhere on the quote. What a joke.

With the way my family works..they are going to replace it. And replace it twice if needed.

It isn't totaled surprisingly for $9000 to fix it, meaning the cash value is probably higher than I thought. Carmax offered to buy it (before the accident) for $8k. It is like being lowballed on CL.

What were you making before your turbo messed up? What is your idea of High power miata? Close to 300hp seems to be a lot to me, I hear 400+ is like going plad.

So if we really want to get into bench racing.

It seems like for a K swap, just by really rough estimates with my no fab self, the price is about 2x for a K vs BP at ~220whp, but once you go for 300whp or higher (using turbo on both), the costs start going more and more even, all because the K24 will make lots of power on a stock engine.
K cost over BP
~24-30% with using a miata 6spd (Variation due to a block built by TSE vs eBay rods type build) on the BP and BMW on K24
~10% with BMW on both, if using my guess at what the BMW trans will cost, by using what it costs to adapt a K20/K24 to a miata 6spd.

This includes a 10% hysteria constant built into the initial.

Adding in a getrag stage 2 is a constant value between the two, so nothing lost/gained if that is felt needed.
