This is a great thread. Great build. Keep the updates coming!

y8s 08-20-2010 10:08 AM

you had me at 15 boring gas tank pics.

inferno94 08-20-2010 05:39 PM

You wouldn't think the factory twin pump setup would be too bad. I had one of these engines (among other mods) in a fwd 323 and with the single 255hp pump I ran it would momentarily stall with less than 1/2 tank, in the corners. That is very annoying on the street let alone when on a track.

I'm pretty sure the 3" exh isn't factory, my engine came with a 2.5" factory dp though.

I want one of these cars for the snow.............boost + studded tires + awd + frozen lake =.

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody, I'll update the thread asap, not much new but I'll have a small post to add later tonight :)

The BF wheel arches are different, the GTR arches wouldn't fit, but I have some pics I could share of BG 323s with those 240Z flares installed?

They'll become important once I modify the tank soon, but I'm glad those pics in particular hooked you :P

The stock setup isn't too shabby, supports 18PSI all day, and the transfer pump keeps the main sump happy and full of fuel. If you saw the fuel calculations, you'd understand why I need two pumps going. Did I mention that my 1600cc injectors are also slightly too small? I'll up the pressure in the fuel rail to compensate.

Correct, don't remember the stock size (2.25"?) but I do know the DP and cat are the most restrictive components of the stock system.

New power steering cooler

Haven't had time to work on the car, been preoccupied with work and my girl, so here's some pics of a few parts and minor progress. I did make some progress elsewhere on the car but that part is still under wraps until I have something substantial to show :)

I wish I can daily drive one of these some day!!

So I acquired a new forged BPD from an Escort GT(-R). I'll salvage what I can for the GTR build (motor, flywheel, ECU, fuel rail, intake mani, ebc, resistor pack, sensors & gauges, remote oil cooler) and sell the rest to help fund this project.

http://www.detoxservers.com/corey/EGT/sspx0005.jpg
The new heart, needs a Mazda cover, and a Mazdaspeed cap (the original one flew off the car after I killed my buddy's freshly $18k built STI, close call!)

http://www.detoxservers.com/corey/323gtr/sspx0045.jpg
New I/C arrived, pretty good steal for $100 shipped. 24" x 12" x 3" aluminum core with 2.5" end tanks.

http://www.detoxservers.com/corey/323gtr/sspx0048.jpg
Test fit of one of my couplings, Fits properly, I'll have tighten those t-bolt clamps a lot to handle the amount of boost that'll be running through...

http://www.detoxservers.com/corey/323gtr/sspx0047.jpg
Some new spark plugs and a new gapping tool.

Most of my time has been spent working and stripping both cars. School's starting up and I'm out of a job so there's going to be a small hiccup in parts acquisition, but the project shall always move forward :)

Very nice build, cant wait to see the final product.

So for how much you got that GT? What happened to it?

wayne_curr 09-27-2010 06:58 PM

Definitely going to follow this. I'm buying a GTX in 1 hour so i've now got a vested interest in your progress =P I want more info on your transmission conversion in particular. Also curious to see how those Ksports turn out.

TurboTim 09-27-2010 08:51 PM

This type of build thread make me wish to every God out there that the OP waited until the build was finished before posting. I'll check back in a year or two to see what happened.

Best of luck.

viperormiata 09-27-2010 11:04 PM

You should flip one of the tanks on the intercooler over.

I assume you're talking about a BF GTX? I had one of those a couple of years ago. It was a fun little car, when it didn't leak exhaust into the cab, or had the center diff stuck on, or caliper bolts weren't loose causing the brakes to seize, or pieces of U-strut weren't welded to the frame rail, or the wheel bearing seized and blew your tough-to-find-now hub into five pieces at 115km/h cruising speeds, or the car bottomed out on a public road and flattened your transmission's oil drain plug and you woke up to a pool of tranny oil all over your unsealed garage floor, or the car died at a funeral home (irony much?) and got towed the next morning because of no spark. Otherwise, it's a REALLY fun car, the short wheelbase was sick and the power once I put in a chipped ECU + EBC was good for DD. Lesson learned: don't buy cars from crazy farmers living on an island.

Driveline swap kits are pretty easy. You can get everything but the rear subframe mod + shifter assembly shipped to you to practically make it a bolt-on application.

That's a really good idea, if my buddy can weld aluminum I'll totally do that, thanks!

More critical parts coming in the mail... just waiting to finalize a big sale from my partout (https://www.miataturbo.net/stuff-sale-trade-70/partout-upgraded-escort-gt-51765/) before I buy one of the turbos, the exhaust manifold piping, and the MS3.

Splitime 09-28-2010 01:31 PM

Driveline kits offered for non-GTR though? Whats the power support ratings of the celica stuff?

Oh and Yes please, I've seen a pic of one grey/gray car with them... which got me thinking. I have a set in the garage... just debating if I use them.
"The BF wheel arches are different, the GTR arches wouldn't fit, but I have some pics I could share of BG 323s with those 240Z flares installed?"

Crazy Drummer69 09-28-2010 01:47 PM

The Celica guys are running up to 600hp reliably, though they start having center diff problems in that range, but anything is better than the baby gears Mazda pulled from the toy box.

Let's talk hypothetically about doing the conversion for the BF. For the GTR, it's easy because the front axles fit in the front hubs and you just use spacers for the rear axles. You'd probably need to play musical axles, or you might have to get new or hybrid axles made for the fronts because of the BF's shorter wheel track. The adapter plates have only been designed for the BP, but if you can mate a BG 4wd to a B6T and a BF 4WD to a BPT, I'm sure you could get the adapter plate to work with minor mods. You might still need to space out your exhaust/turbo, you might not depending on your setup. Also, I don't know if the propshaft would be too long since the BG has a longer wheelbase.

And here are those pics I talked about. 2.5L supercharged KL, converted TO RHD, built from the ground up properly and with love: http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49082

Splitime 09-28-2010 01:49 PM

Thats the car I was thinking of. Would allow me to swap wheels back and forth with the miata... so tempting.

I just bought a "spare" GTX... seemed like the thing to do from what I've heard about trying to find spare parts ;)

Hahaha, sorry, forgot to add that I got it from a crazy farmer on an island!

Totally. The guy I sold it to already had 2 GTXs plus a Canadian BG 323GT (FWD BP hatch).
