Should have done this three months ago.

Current spot sucks too cus oil drain is only two inches long now.
id just like to point out for the record that this post was made while faelfael was under the influence of a mind altering substance.

Weld it and forget it. Plus with the motor out you can change that oil pump that has forever scared me. Do they sell billet gear sets for the vvt pump? If so put that in because with the RPM you give it you will need it.

OK. The car will run again tomorrow.

I plugged the old fu(king hole. I do not think a welded bung there would help. Shamelessly, I will post a picture of the jb-welded, rtv'd-up old drain. It was just too short. Even with push-loc hose it would always exert pressure. I also don't believe in welded AN male fittings. Ideally, if there is room, you should weld on a female NPT fitting, and then screw in a male-male NPT-AN adapter. AN fittings strip out way too easily. It's slowly happening with my big -12 fittings FTL.

To plug the hole I just put in the plug with some jb weld. Done.

Now off to the store to get a 3/8 NPT tap and a gallon of mineral spirits. I lost my old BEGI kit tap :( Am going to tap in the standard place, with oil in the pan and grease on the bits. Will flush the pan a whole bunch through the hole. Will finish off with hand drill for the sized drill bit.

On your alternator issue, you were controlling the voltage output with the hydra. You switched to an NA alternator. Did you follow the FM rewriting instructions so that the alternator will evaluate system voltage and output correspondingly?

I read through the whole thread over days. Here is a guy pouring tons of time and money into a project he is learning on and documenting the process in a stream of consciousness output.

I think most people have a few similar stories and definitely make different choices but his build isn't that far removed from most. He just seems to be brutally hones about his ruckus and process with little apparent care for showmanship, structure or organization. I'm guessing there is no build book, notes, spreadsheets, failure tracking etc and that it's all just held in memory.

I like it but like everyone would like to see dyno numbers. I can't believe the frantic work and changes just before each dyno day. It's like the process of validation prior to an extent is undesirable in Fae's world.

Think of all of our teasing of Fae in an affectionate manner, Vt.

I'm not serious when I give him ----.

Yup it worked.

Note that i also needed to replace my alternator tensioner bolts. That was causing my belt to loosen up over time. By time i mean 30 miles. Sucked. Yes you can get the tensioner bolts and block from mazda. Dealer.
