Fae has started texting me to figure out tag his car in SC.

He has mentioned both his miata's and the forester. I wonder what happened to his Lexus, or did he leave that stock so he should have no problems with it in Cali.

There ARE counties in California with only a transfer smog requirement, but not a biennial inspection requirement.

Vacation home (aka po box) time?

Frankly, that was the most wild story of any internet forum or group I've participated in.

Yes I am selling the IS-F on tuesday to ******* carmax cus nobody wants to buy a luxury sports sedan that nobody even knows exists. M3 brahhhhh $35,000 and 48K miles. Needs new front brakes and when I drop it off, it will definitely need new rear tires. It was a fantastic car and I whored on it vigorously and it even has all of it's structural members still intact. I didn't know cars could work that way

Slutbucket miata is being sold on craigslist because **** stock miatas.

It's not like you have to register it here the day you show up... I may or may not have driven my jeep around with ID plates until the tags finally expired.

I drove a car around with Florida plates for three years till I sold it, **** property tax and out of state inspections.

No smog here though.

California VLF is a personal property tax, currently set at (I think) 0.66% of the value of the vehicle. If you buy a $200K motorhome, you pay almost $20K in sales tax, and then $1200 a year in VLF. At those rates, a few hundred bucks to set up a corporation in Montana is cheap.

The state claims doing this is illegal, but a friend of mine (who happens to be an attorney) says they're full of it, because the vehicle is owned by the corporation and the corporation is not a CA corporation, even if that vehicle spends all of its time in CA. I dunno -- it's not a game I want to play, so all of my vehicles are registered in my name at my home address.

No matter how many people, and no matter how many times you ask this exact question over and over again, the options remain exactly the same. The 3 options I gave you. That's it.

It's got to be 3 from this list:

1) find a shady shop
2) do a swap to stock every two years
3) register it in one of the few smog friendly counties
4) try and keep it registered out of state
