What do you guys think of these king bearing sets? Some good prices on ebay, about $50 shipped.
Main Rod Bearings Fits Mazda Mercury Kia 1 6L 1 8L B6 B6ZE BP | eBay
If not kings, what else should i be looking at for around the same price? Those come with rods/mains/thrust bearings. Looking on rock auto i didn't see anything i trusted at a reasonable price.
And piston rings, what about total seal? I can get a set of chrome ones on rockauto for about $100. I know I want chrome rings, does the brand really matter?

I have no idea, but I'd rather put a more expensive, reliably tested bearing kit in my motor.
On that note your snow pictures make me want to cry. My knee makes it so I can never ski again, so when I see beautiful slot/side canyons like that with perfect powder...well...those feels man.

NOW BACK TO ENGINE INTERNALS! If not kings, what else should i be looking at reasonably priced that includes mains/rods/thrust bearings. I like what King advertises about their bearings,
"HP Bearings: HP bearings are designed for high performance street or daily driven applications that may see light to medium track time. Built from bi-metal aluminum silicon alloy, HP bearings feature a fine micro-bore finish. Additional performance features include 0.015" thick top layer for maximum conformability, 40 Vickers hardness rating to resist overlay migration and extrusion and a 450F deg. heat threshold for superior protection against friction and overheating. All HP main bearings are 3/4 grooved for improved oiling to rod journals."
And of course if you search for king bearings I cant find a single thing bad about them.
So many choices, so little knowledge (personally).

Don't tear your ACL twice, meniscus twice, and separate your patella...mountain biking is my last resort besides swimming, but after 6+ years of competitive swimming I hate the smell of chlorine.
Fire, have you searched classifieds for an unused bearing set? Probably find a better price there.

In F2T-land, we use those King kits. They're about $32 shipped for us. No complaints. (in fact, just put a set in my new motor.)
We also use Diamond Power rings. $18 shipped. No complaints.
King is pretty equivalent to ACL in terms of reputation, just without all the pesky supply issues.

I know I've heard of other cars using king bearings with success. Not sure I've heard of too many people using them on miatas. I think was ends up happening in a lot of communities is that the leading engine builders that post online end up swaying the community to their bearing of choice. Some cars ACLs are god, some its Clevite 66 or nothing, some love King. Its a sacrificial piece of metal as long as your company can make em right, most of the conventional metallurgy has been hashed out so much that as long as you dont need bleeding edge performance I dont see how there could be a significant difference between bearing brands.

LOL, the engine he thought was knocking but it was just a loose crank pulley? I'll drop him a PM. I think i might go for them, honestly as long as the clearances measure out (will be plasti gauging everything) i don't think there's anything to worry about with them.

LOL, thanks guys. You would be surprised how heavy duty that sign was. Had to park a truck on it with a 2x4 and have two people grab the other end and push to get the bend i needed. fits PERFECT now, clears the header, bolts on with 4x 12mm bolts very securely. You could definitely slide it over a rock without much damage to the plate
This was your idea btw vlad (with a diy twist) so i blame you :P

My dad used to steal road construction signs(the kevlar fabric kind) in the 70's and build climbing packs out of them. They were the only fabric at the time the could deal with being hauled up big wall granite climbs in Yosemite. That pack has been up El Capitan and Half-Dome several times and I still have it in my closet.

Still undecided on bearings, but those kings are still tempting. Going to go to the garage this week and mic all my crank measurements to make sure OEM sized bearings are what I need (and that the motor hasn't been rebuilt with OS bearings or something, which i doubt).
Miata is on the mind though, with this warm weather. proof:
