First steps complete Edit!.... Running!!!

Well I've taken my first steps toward getting this thing boosted. I hope this is the right place to post this but might as well start documenting my build. After much reaserch and advice from Lars I installed my AFR gauge and a few others while i wait for my MK kit to be done and my MS3x from Braineak. I will install my MS and play around with tuning on my stock setup before diving head first into the deep end.

I was going to make my own gauge panel but decided to go with DDM Works 3 Gauge panel. It was a little pricey but I wanted this build to be clean and not look thrown together.

My gauges all fit fine with the exception of my boost gauge. I ended up filing the hole just a bit in order to get it to fit. It was minor and just took a few minutes. I also had to cut the upper tabs just below the screw hole so the tombstone clips could engage the recepticles but again it only took a few minutes. Over all im very happy with the quality of gauge panel. It is very sturdy and not cheap looking. Everything lined up great and the installation was simple. The only thing i may do is buy a new tombstone. The opening was enlarged by the previous owner and there is a gap along the edges that im not completly happy with. A new tombstone would make this whole thing look very clean and sharp.

Well Merry Christmas to me!! This showed up today thanks Braineak!!.... smooth fast transaction. Guess I better figure out how to tune on my stock setup. Just ordered my flow force 640cc injectors today and they shipped already. Things are happening fast. Looks like I'll be reading and researching all weekend. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...18d44cddc8.jpg

Just got my shipping confirmation from the man himself today. Looks like we're starting around the same time!

What's the ETA on your MK turbo kit? What year is your NB?

Erat 12-04-2016 04:19 PM

NB?

Im not sure on the ETA of my kit but sometime after the new year im sure. Ive been going over the directions for the MS3x over and over so I dont do anything stupid. There are just a couple things Im not sure about and am still trying to figure out before tackling the install. Flow Force injectors are on the way so I need to get going soon. The NB in the background is my wifes 02 SE.

I just noticed that was an NB. At first, i thought it was a mustang.

Im jealous!!! My day will get here soon. Im looking forward to installing the mechanical bits, lm new to tuning so im just a bit out of my element but im slowly figuring it out.

Ive been reading over both. I think i have most everything figured out at this point. It was mostly stupid questions. Got stumbled up on the tps wiring but realized i can skip that since I have a 1.8 tps (variable already i believe) and WbO2 I/O pigtail wiring showed a spark c and d wire that i also believe i can ignore. Im still searching to make sure but its amazing how everytine i think im stumped i can search this site and answer my question. This site is really amazing!!

I've got some time off this next week and that is my plan. Looks like the weather will warm up and make it a little less miserable in the garage.

Fast forward a little bit. I'm getting pretty close to finishing up this mkturbo project. This has been a fun learning expierience and I'm sure there's more learning to come once this thing fires up.

So far your setup has been the smoothest part!!!

I pulled the motor to or to fix numourous oil leaks, replace rear main seal, upgrade clutch and while I was in there figured I might as well clean up the engine bay and de-power my rack. Only Holy %^#*! Moment came when putting the motor back in. I didn't take everyone's advice and did not remove my CAS, go figure!! I hit it on the fire wall and bent the connector on top. It didn't break and I was able to straighten it out but we will see what happens when I go to start it. Fingers crossed.

Everything for you turbo setup went together great. Figment has been spot on and I was even able to connect the down pipe myself. Nothing rubbing or hitting. I should be able to install mid pipe and muffler tonight. Very Happy so far thanks Lars!!

Got the Exhaust hooked up in less than 10 minutes. Everything fits tight and sturdy. It's hard to tell from the picture but the down pipe clears the rear shelf by 1/8 of an inch. V band clamps made it a simple installation. Nice work Lars!!👍🏼

Running!!

Well after a few weekends of hard work I got her running today for the first time with my new MK turbo set up. I only intended on pulling the motor so I could fix a few leaks (oil pan and rear main seal) however I got a little carried away and since the motor was out I decided to clean things up, de-power my rack and clean up a bunch of electrical things I didn't need anymore. I was very nervous and had my fire extinguisher ready !!! but when I turned the key she fired up first try. It's seemed to surge little bit at first and search for a good Idle but once it was near operating temperature the idol was smooth and it was running great. It was idling a little lean for my liking so after it was warmed up I adjusted my VE idle settings and without much effort it idols smooth and pretty much dead on 14.7 afr at 925 rpm.

The car sounds great and is much quieter now with the exhaust from Lars compared to my old exhaust. I was a little surprised at how loud the "sucking" sound was coming from the turbo through my AEM filter. I couldn't be happier with how things turned out today.

Next off off to the tuners to see what this thing can put down!!

That valve cover is so clean, nice!
