Me and my buddie were able to work on the bench a bit more today. Pressure pickups were added and the bench was sealed up. We also got the D15/D16 head adapter made. Couldn't get flow numbers due to a serial cable malfunction, but we did get test the bench for leaks and mount up a z6 head for a quick test flow with an open port and no valves. All in all it was a productive day. Tomorrow will we will have set up the flow testing software and made the valve opening fixture to get some numbers on a z6 head and z6 intake manifold! I will mount up a 1.6L miata head once I get my cylinder back from the machine shop. I will give some stock flow number on that also.

Well I tested and mapped the first head a few days ago. The bench is working great. Now send me some parts to flow test!

3" metalcat vs. 3" straight pipe of same length??

leshok Apr 12, 2009 05:57 PM

Sure. I just tested a 2.5" magnaflow "high flow" cat.

So when can we see some numbers?

Stealth97 Apr 14, 2009 11:19 AM

Dude this is awesome. If you do head work for $600 FM might pay you to stop :)

What numbers do you want to see? The only things I have tested have pertained to Honda engines.
I can get a 1.6L miata head on the bench. Would that be sufficient?

I do it for cheaper than that! Maybe I could start doing headwork for flyin miata and lower the cost a bit :)

Whatever numbers this contraption is supposed to provide. I just want to see some of your findings, I dont particularly care what engine it refers too. Maybe im just more curious then everyone else.

Ok...

D16z6 head = 167 cfm .450 lift @ 28" H20
H22a Head = 272 cfm .450 lift @ 28" H20

I will get the miata head on there. I have a feeling the d16 head out flows it.

Update: I got my Velocity probes in today. The bench is fully operational now.
I have had many cylinder heads on the bench so far. All with good results!
Now send me some things to flow test!

Saml01 Apr 16, 2009 11:52 AM

Can you maybe show a diagram or some labeled pictures of exactly how this thing works? Also some pictures of what does the measuring? and What does the computer do?

If you could flow a stock Miata head and then modify it and post the after results with the same head, that would be awesome! Who knows you might be getting a 99 head based on the results... :D

I have a really accurate pressure sensor for sale that you might have some use for. Its in the classified section.

https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t34187/

I used it for fuel pressure but you can use it for any type of liquid or gas up to 100 psi-abs.
