You lapped them down that much by hand?

What was your lapping process this time around?

Lapping my valves is next on my list (sort of), so I'm curious what you did, then maybe I'll do 1/3 of that...

I did them with a drill and by hand.

1st round, rough compound was done by drill. about 2 minutes each at varying speeds and constantly switching directions and pressure.
2nd round, fine compound was done by hand. Same as above except probably about 5-10 minutes each.

Checked each valve and seat and didn't stop until each was flawlessly smooth and had a solid seating area.

The bottom line is you gotta do it til its perfect. Otherwise what's the point.

So now I gotta trim these shims to get it back in spec. All but the <.004 ones should be pretty quick though, they're only about .003 closer than OEM specs.

Yum. You should go all on those framerails for extra clearance.

Man, i kind of miss that guy now. I don't know if anyone will ever top what he did to those framerails, it looked like some **** out of a horror movie.

I'll be honest, I'm really surprised there is that much clearance with a 2871 on an FM manifold. Makes me wonder why the T25 turbos need to be clearanced.

Oh no this thing will need clearancing to sit properly. And that's a begi log (not that it matters). The way it is now, it BARELY squeezed in and I had to clock the compressor to the left to do it. Taking out, or even just flattening slightly, the .5" lip should make it fit properly.

What's really stupid though, at least to me, is that the size of the compressor housing on the gt2560r commonly used is actually about the same exterior size as this 2871. The comp wheel is WAY bigger on this bad boy, I don't understand why garrett didn't cast a much smaller housing on their smaller turbos.

Well so much for meeting the deadline.

As always, BEGi is super duper behind and lagging on my order. This was supposed to be my Christmas present btw, and I was supposed to receive it on the 14th or so. Yeah so much for that.

Steph has been giving me the bs excuses and straight up ignored like half the emails I sent them asking for status update and ETA. Last monday she said it was supposed to be shipped. Yeah right.

So yeah. BEGi still blows at customer service and turnaround times. What else is new. Super nice and super helpful when you are about to buy something, but as soon as they have your money good luck. And this is just a SIMPLE cast manifold and S downpipe too. Nothing fancy at all.

On another note the shims are done, and I'm basically waiting on the BEGi order and a few very minor things to button the car up. Lets hope everything comes soon. If I don't get a tracking number tomorrow I'm gonna get pretty hostile with them.

Merry Christmas folks

Yeah, sorry to hear about your trouble with BEGI. Most of my parts from them were bought second hand so I never had to deal with them for anything like that, this is really making me reconsider buying a new downpipe from them in the spring.

Might've been better off waiting for the TSE EFR6258 kit to be finalised :P

Seriously though, I'm surprised that BEGi are still in business given the competition that exists today and the number of online complaints from dissatisfied customers.

I've always been impressed with the service that most US companies provide compared with many Australian companies which could traditionally treat customers like **** since we had no other options available to us. Thankfully that's all changed with the internet and cheaper international shipping.

Bad service means no subsequent business. This is core to capitalism, surely BEGi as a US company, home of capitalism, comprehends this?

Obviously not.

I have no idea either. I mean they're nice people, Steph was really nice over the phone and all, but when you promise someone 2 weeks and it takes 4 (and that's assuming I'll get it next week), there's a problem.
And when dozens of others have the same exact experience, that's an even bigger problem. And then there's the turbo kit guys that have to wait 5-8 months.

Ugh.

I got an email from her this afternoon that "it is getting finished up and will ship out tomororw". I'm not holding my breath.

I just bought another subaru lol

my 5th one:
