Its not to save money this time. I have some outside stuff that is taking time from being able to work on the car. I'd rather have a solid slightly shittier setup so I can build the VVT over time and put other things first. Money is not the issue time is. :/

I was about to come in here and say you're crazy, might as well just do rods-only on the VVT, but you'd have to re-do all the turbo stuff.
I think with your luck you have 3 choices.
1. Turn the boost down a couple PSI. Easy button, and you'll still have a helluva lot more fun than NA OR than with a busted car.
2. Rods and rings 1.6 build. I do not think this is a terrible idea.
3. You chance it and likely break something. This is worse than being slow, as you well know since you've done both.
Based on our conversations, I really think the right answer is #1. More to life than this stuff. I need to tell myself that more, maybe I'll start living it.

Good to hear arca, makes me feel a bit better.

Ed, good points. A few less psi will be way more fun than none. Now hurry up and get your car together so I can get my high boost fix as a passenger.

Ok current plan of attack.
Tuesday: rebuild tail end of 6 speed. New rear seal, maybe new o-ring for speed sensor. Doubt I'll get the snap ring or gasket in time. Either install Ed's MSM shifter, or Bobs. Apparently there are different 6 speed shifters-news to me.
Pull exhaust, ppf, drain fluids etc. In prep for wed.
Wednesday: Yank is coming over with truck jack stands. Pull 5 speed, put in 6 speed. Replace rear main while I'm at it...again. Fill with ford fluid.
Weekend is free to tear into donor car, get it out of my grandmas garage (and into her field ) and spend some well needed non car time. Maybe some mountain biking in hood river.
Don't think Bob has the VIN for this tailshaft extension housing he sent me. I will mearsur when I get home. Hopefully Ed can measure too.
