That would be awesome.

I like that the mini is cheap for initial investment.

This can always be re-done down the road if needed.

Is very simple.

Cheap. DIY. Performance.

(Used, maybe) Wilwood caliper with an off the shelf rotor.

We all have mill access (even though I suck at using it) so DIY bracket.

DIY centering ring.

Basically what you did, but try and stuff the 11.5 rotor under there.

Why would you buy used calipers when you can buy new ones for $289 here?

Dynapro 4 Piston BLACK Caliper Upgrade for Big Brake Kits for Miata

And I still don't understand why go through all this when you can get a new Dynapro setup from V8R for $729. I realize that's a lot of money but it includes lines, brackets, super lightweight hats, 11.75" rotors... and rotor rings are cheap to replace after you buy the initial kit.

I mean, if it's fun it's fun, but it's only saving you money if you value your time at $0.

I may go that way. But what if I find them used for 100?

The time involved is not much.

Rings and brackets.

OFSCO in portland has premade lines for every connection you can think of for cheap, and DOT legal.

If this ends up being <400 that is something I can tell myself I can afford right now. 729 is a lot more.

Here are some of the old numbers I have from when I did it back in 2012/13. You could save the cost of the brackets if you DIY'ed it or got them for cheaper, but that is pretty much what they will run you unless you get the calipers for significantly cheaper. $260 for a pair of new Dynalites is hard to beat.
$35 for the 11.75 friction rings is dirt cheap once you pay $750 for a kit without pads.
SuperMiata 11.75 BBK
Cost of DIY Mini rotors with Dynalites
Rotors $80
Hoses $45
Calipers $260
DTC-60 pads $80
Brackets/rings$150
Total $615
Rotor weight info from my research:
Rotor weights
1.6 Miata 8.5lbs
1.8 Miata 10lbs
Corrado 12.65lbs
Mini 11"12.3 lbs
Mini 11.5"15.5 lbs
11" Wilwood7.9lbs +2lbs (hat) = 9.9 lbs
11.75" Wilwood8.1lbs + 2lbs (hat) = 10.1 lbs

Aren't dynalites sub $100 brand new?
Replacement Wilwood Brake Caliper, Dynalite Four Piston 120-6806 Forged. for Miata
I can't see this setup costing more than half the V8R or comparable kits.

Hmmm. Thats a big weight difference. Maybe we should consider the 11 inch. @hi_im_sean, @deezums

I see 14.1 here.

279mm rotor is 186mm of rotor surface.

294mm is 211mm of rotor surface.

I'm sure there is more maths, but thats a 13.4% increase?

12.3*1.134=13.9

MATH

Edit: Used the wrong rotor first time round. But close still

That is stupid cheap! If that is a complete caliper for $97 you should buy a ton of them RIGHT NOW!!! I couldn't find them for less than $125 when I was looking.
As far as the weights. I weighed the Miata and Mini rotors (11 and 11.5) myself so I know the numbers are real. The 11.5" was noticeably hevier when you picked it up. The 11.5" rotor has a disk that is ~11.25 and 0.5" wide extra material over the 11". It adds up quickly. What didn't make sense to me is how the Willwood 11 vs 11.5 is only 0.2 lb heavier.
My only guess is that the Mini S rotor was not just bigger, but beefier since it is designed for more aggressive use and heat dissipation. Just a guess though.

The 11" is 12.6 from the same mfr, for a comparison point.
Duralast/Brake Rotor - Front 45484 at AutoZone.com
This fella is only 276 OD though, not 280.
All 2007+ mini rotors are 22mm thickness, prior years are 21.8mm. All of them should fit, more or less.
If I'm not mistaken, the brackets would be damn near identical anyway. There shouldn't be more than 1/4" of offset, then we can use either or.
I want directional rotors, is that a thing? This Mini S rotor I have here has directional vanes, I just noticed the links Aiden is posting aren't...
