Man. Speaking of hubs/wheel bearings, I think one of mine on the passenger side is going out, started getting really bad vibrations in left handers during the last couple laps of my last race of the weekend but was still able to back off and finish since I had a significant lead already.

This is frightening. Glad nothing bad happened.

All better:

Got a lifetime warranty WP from the zone. The casting was different and more robust than the DNJ that broke:

If this one breaks too, then I'm getting a 1.6 bracket like Curly suggested.

Off to the track for hub testing!!! This is TWS in College Station, TX. Got to visit my daughter at Texas A&M while I was there.

Could you share your alignment specs? I just installed Xidas with 900/550 springs and Bauer ball joints, as well as a RB 1.125" front sway bar. I'm thinking about going with 3.7 degrees of camber in the front and 3.2 in the back.

I'm 700/400, and using 3.5*F/3.0*R -- pretty much as recommended by 949 (Miata Race alignment).

I still get more outer tire wear than I'd like. 3.7/3.2 would be better for me I think. But you have stiffer springs which should roll less, so . . . ? Try it and see?

Alignment specs we publish are just a starting point. We have successfully run over -4° front camber for some tracks. For best possible speed, you have to be willing to dink with alignment, symmetery, corner weights and wedge. In Supermiata, I'm lazy so I always run a symmetrical alignment, just individually optimized pressures by pyro. When we ran NASA enduros and PT, we had a specific alignment for each track. For two tracks, we ran different length springs left to right with radical wedge and asymmetry. No I won't share those numbers or specs. The point is asking someone else for their alignment specs should only be a starting point. If you want to go fast, you need to experiment, take scales and alignment tools to the track.

The other day, there were two brand new ND cup cars at the track testing. They were intense. Had a full crew, leveled scales/alignment rack, computers galore, etc. Seriously impressive $$.

Based on the tire marks on the pavement, you're not the only one to experiment in that corner.

Interesting track session last weekend. This is the first-thing-in-the-morning instructor session after a near-Biblical week and a half of solid rain. Track was green, slow, slicker than snot and had 3 rivers flowing across it. 3 of us formed up a Conga line and cruised. It was fun.

On the session after this one, I spun a bearing (200 hours of banging the 7500 limiter, so not complaining). Engine sounded like marbles by the time I got off track. MER, the local Miata race shop, had a good, used 2003 VVT motor that they're going to drop in for me. It's kind of nerve wracking letting someone else wrench on the car, but I just don't have time right now. These guys have always admired the workmanship on my car -- and from what I've seen, their workmanship is good too. So, I'm hoping my -----retentive self will be happy with the work.

In other news, bought Safecraft harnesses from MER as well. I'm sick of the G-Forces. They had several types of harnesses installed in cars around the shop, and the Safecraft's won me over. Looking forward to being able to confidently belt in passengers in the future. It never seemed like we could get the G-Force lap belts tight enough on most people.

I like MER, the last time I went there I got to sit in quite a few seats, that's when I discovered the super comfortable Racetech seats that I can't afford. Also, the owner's girlfriend asked me if I would like to drive her new ND miata (which I also can't afford), so you know I took her up on that offer.

Seriously, 15 minutes of driving the ND ruined my NB driving for about a month, it was that good.

Anyways, looks like you will get to play with VVT tuning now. Should be able to get some more power everywhere in the rev range once you get a chance to tune it. Should be fun!

"New engine" is working out fine. Can't complain about $700. Doesn't seem much different power-wise than the last, but it runs cool and has minimal oil consumption. Other than auto-tuning fuel, haven't spent any time tuning. Running the same spark map as with the last engine.

I LOVE the Safecrafts. Man, they're nice.

As always . . . vid. Fastest laps are 6 (1:24.983) and 12 (1:24.803). Pretty good considering the heat. Lots of passing on lap 7.

+1.

Jet videos would be cool too.

I'm possibly getting married at an air field. Can you drop me off in a fighter jet?
