Very cool project, I like the older full size SUVs too.

Interior check-fit. Sides are micro-suede, floor is marine pile (speaker material, except olefin). The tunnel is carbon fiber-topped.

The firewall has a nice 1/4" thermo layer on it, complete with reflective coating.

Need to move again...outgrowing the shop.

Mobius Nov 13, 2015 03:08 AM

My father-in-law retired to his family farm. The house he grew up in was not suitable for retirement. It needed to be torn down and a new house built.

Also, his 2-cylinder John Deere hobby had outgrown the existing toolshed. A new toolshed would need to be built.

So what happened was this:

first, the new toolshed was built. A 48' x 98' Morton building. About a third was insulated and HVAC controlled. One 14' rollup for the hvac section, one 14' rollup for the uninsulated section, hangar doors for the far end.

The insulated, HVAC section has plumbing and a fully functional shower/bathroom.

So the process was: move out of the existing house into the toolshed. Tear down old house. Build new house. Move from toolshed into the new house.

Such marital fu. I aspire to such greatness.

The world we live in now is dominated by "micro-aggressions" and "safe spaces" and campus riots because there is no free tuition or free health care. Do you think these kids would forego instant gratification to live in a shed? Yep, yours is truly a hero folk tale. :)

32 x 48 is no small living space(1/3 of the building) Where is the family farm?

aidandj Nov 13, 2015 11:22 AM

I expect this from you richard. When you get back I want a 96x48 building, with personl lifts and tools for all the PDX track bros.

Keisler + Ohlins = drool

Pink foam under the floor boards stops heat and makes the floor feel solid. A second thermal pad has been bonded to the floor for overkill protection.

Alcantara covered sides, carbon-topped tunnel (with Kevlar casing underneath), marine carpet. It's starting to look good.

Back view. There's tons of interior room, and we have plans for some nice accent pieces.

8Kg front 5Kg rear Swift springs. They're 1Kg less than the last car, and we may go down a bit after testing.

Here's a drawing for a gauge pod for the dash. I'm hoping to print it, prep it and then make a nice mold so it can be replicated in carbon fiber. It should look nice sitting over the carbon tunnel.

Just a quick whinge about your manifold, then I'll STFU. Sch10 is not thick wall. When we were running AF setups years and years ago, the manifolds were all built from Sch40 ells, and despite that, Tim had to start adding the diamond bracing to every manifold after inspecting my manifold and finding cracks in a couple of the runners. After adding the diamond braces (and bracing the EWG, and rerouting the downpipe), it held together. IOW, after breaking an unreinforced Sch40 manifold, I have zero faith in Sch10 welded manifolds.

I would much rather see you on an EFR setup

Andrew, I really like the design of your new manifold and probably would have gone with that if it had been available. As you mentioned, the mani I have probably needs to be braced, and I'd always planned on doing that, as well as making some cuts to allow for expansion. My other thought was to clock the T3 mount so that the downpipe would flow naturally to the side exhaust, although it doesn't seem like that's needed at this point. We'll see...

You make it hard not to want blow the money saved up for a new house. Great word and quality.

This vehicle is looking spectacular.

Rural western KY. The main farm section is ~200 acres. They lease the fields.

Bonus 1: cheap land.
Bonus 2: mineral rights are attached.
Bonus 2a: there's coal under that thar farm, and coal checks occasionally roll in. My wife gets a piece of a piece that her aunt left to her (my fathernlaw's sister) when her aunt died, and it was too big to be deposited via the mobile app this year. Sweet! That will likely be the only money we see from it, though, as the seam is reportedly about to be played out and the mine closed.
Bonus 2b: there's a natural gas storage field under the farm. The gas company, therefore, feeds the farmhouse with an unmetered gas line directly from the field as compensation for the use of the field.

My lot is 50x100. Disregarding Portland setback allowances, there is the matter of the house currently on the property. Fund my purchase of the house next door and we'll see what happens.

aidandj Nov 29, 2015 01:44 AM

Your neighborhood would have you stoned if you built a shop on an entire lot. It would be "sore on the eyes"

Meanwhile I live on top of my 27*28 garage. In a living space much s.baller than that.

Mobius Nov 29, 2015 02:57 AM

You think I can't build a traditional Craftsman shop? Only money stops me.

sixshooter Nov 29, 2015 07:59 AM

Please consider V8Roadster tubular control arms to match all of the awesome that is there already. Stock stamped control arms aren't what this beauty deserves.

I think so too. :) We're going full V8R on the next car, from K member, a-arms, tubular rear subassembly, etceteras. And LFX. I'm shooting for an overall weight comparable to this car, and better front/rear balance.

This will be a really, really nice build but will focus more on the street side of driving. I'm looking forward to trying out the 5 speed with the 3.63 gearing. Think I'm really going to like that. :bigtu:
