Default Hustler's build thread 2.0, the natural aspiration connection

My turbo build was great, ******* loved the car and everything about it. However, I've turned a corner in my track hobby and now I want to build a car that can be nationally competitive in TT and no Miata is going to do that in the high-power classes. I plan to keep the AF turbo parts in case I don't like this low-powered stuff. If I like it, I may move the AF stuff to a daily driver Miata a few years down the line. I am also pretty desperate for cash so we'll see what happens but it's not going to be cheap if you're interested in buying.

Johnwag has an 11.5:1 engine that I'm borrowing/buying.
Here are the plans for the first stage of the build:
  • 11.5:1 engine with a knifed crank Supertech pistons, unknown rods, 99 head, MS intake cam, square top manifold
  • Spec clutch w/ aluminum PP, aluminum flywheel, and it's a tiny 16 clutch
  • ARTech exhaust that will require some adaptation to work on my car, no cat, small muffler, center exit
  • Still running MS1
  • 6-speed
  • 4.10 rear end
  • Cusco diff
  • 580cc injectors with my SS lines and Fuelab regulator
  • 11.3TSE brakes stay
  • M-tuned rear sport brakes stay
  • skinned dash to drop more weight

Future plans:
  • VVT head
  • MS3(Reverant)
  • EV14 injectors
  • Possible head-work if I have the money

Things I need, urgently
  • custom intake plumbing
  • modification to the exhaust to fit
  • modify header for o2 bung

Currently the turbo engine is hanging and ready to come out. I need to drill and tap the oil pan on the new engine for oil temp

I hope to have all this finished by Friday and on the dyno this Saturday.

Some dumb class reasons for not going with proper cams (even in the future plans)?

$$$, time, effort, give a ****. I just want to have fun and do zero maintenance. I also don't really know much about making NA power, this portion of the thread is about getting the car down the road, having fun at the track, and getting some neurosis out of my life.

Nothing wrong with focusing on seat time. I know too well about the time taken to get a head done right (one year since my VVT engine ran last time).

On the bright side hustler did make it 14k posts with a turbo. He only needs another 4k posts of NA power to be back even.

I think that if you guys talk to any of the powerhouse drivers doing anything notable at a national level, you'll find they all drive NA cars on the track and those cars are their weapons of choice, the FI cars are an engineering experiment or "rare treat".

After seeing what Emilio is doing in Crusher and his street car, what TSE is doing in the Rover, and what the TXMC dirty crew is doing, 170whp NA is going to be more fun, give me a chance to show what I've got, and possibly compete at the national level. It will also remedy me of the constant fear of breaking transmissions, rear ends, turbos, and I won't be as afraid to enter the fast corners in a car without a cage. This was a very, very hard decision for me, but I feel it's the right one. Maybe after I buy a house, truck, and trailer, I will revisit the turbo track car.

Most importantly, no one who've ever run a fast-lap in their lives thinks this is a bad idea.

Hell no. I'm trash without the trailer, I have a shitbox daily driver which will soon have a VVT/10:1 compression swap, 6-speed, 3.63, and MS2.

Sadly, I suspect I'm going to run the same times with the NA set-up that I did with the turbo car. If that happens, I'll need this:
