John and I took everything apart and put it back together...and found a ton of carbon the turbo outlet/dp flange and it looked like I failed at putting it together. Apparently it was leaking all along. I will go back to the dyno fairly soon one I get my ducts in a row on boost control.

I'm running wastegate now, and when its cold pressure goes way up. I need to put a nipple on the cold side of the intercooler, and I think I'm going to swing by Alamo this weekend and pick up a softer swing in addition to an oil line restricter because it smoked again on start-up today.

I'm skipping the ECR track event this weekend, and probably hitting MSR the next weekend. I look forward to rhomping a few rich people in the very near future.

Tim,
I can't think you enough for these parts. I had a lot of fun because you took time out of your life to finish my kit early. Seriously, I had a great time because this stuff held together and I got to drive my car again on the track, without mechanical issue, for the first time since October 2007.

Going back up a number of posts to the hub discussion, spec miata guys do have problems with hub quality. Not like A1 VW where the whole ******* wheel comes off, but bearing deterioration. A while back, I posted a link to a site with instructions on repacking/rebuilding the hubs, I can dig it up if someone wants. Also, places like Applied Racing Technology sells what they call blueprinted SM hubs, said to be a lot stronger than stock.

I'd like to repack the next set with redline, but it may not be worth the effort. Now on the rear its so easy to repack that it cannot be ignored...especially considering the extremely difficult install.

nah...my life is pretty sad, but my car makes me smile. If you told me I'd have car like this by the time I was 30 when I finished college while living out of a Jetta and sofa surfing, I'd bitch and moan. I've had a pretty fortunate life, and happy to have such a fun little toy.

No problem bud, I appreciate the faith and trust you placed in me. Now if I can only get Nick's done! I have been taking my time on that so it's coming out nice so far.

i'm going to try that too. my boost spike's to 12psi for a sec. before it drops down when i have it set at 10psi. i don't wanna be spiking 14psi when i turn it up to 12.

romping rich bastards is always fun. but it's not nearly as fun as a close battle. who cares what people think (or say for that matter) about your lap time. all that matters is if you had fun or not. you can do what you want, but i promise, if you go to tws, you will have waaayyyy more fun than msr. your car is built for tws. msr-c is fun, but whorespower doesn't matter as much there. do yourself and your car a favor and let it stretch it's legs a little. remember, i don't know if you ever skated, but if you skate with a bunch of scrubs, you'll skate like a scrub. even if your the best one there, your still a scrub. if you skate with a bunch of pro's, (even if your the worst of the pro's) your still a pro. skating (or driving) with people above your level always pushes you to try a little harder, be a little better, push the envelope.
i hope i'm not the fastest at this miata challenge. i hope a N/A car is faster than me, cuz i gaurantee you i'll be faster after i find out what they're doing different/ what parts they're running that are better. but whatever, i'm not your daddy, and i'm not gonna beg you to come have fun with us. good luck with whatever you do.

I plan to run msr next weekend to log some more hours on the turboparts, I won't be ready for this weekend.

Funny that you bring up skating, I rode for 7-ply and globe when I was a teenager.

I'm going to run tws. It will be good, and I'll bring the motorhome. I owe it to the absurdflow R&D project.

What are the chances that my oil temp sensor is heat-soaking from the turbine housings sitting 4" in-front of the sensor in respect to airflow? The wire recently melted to the dipstick tube too, lol. My oil temps were 260* at the last event in 85* ambient air, which I find hard to believe with a ducted 8x10" oil cooler.

I would say quite possible. Wrap the sensor and some of the surrounding tubing with some fiberglass tape, like the header wrap stuff.

How/where exactly is the sensor? And the cooler? Mine is slightly larger (10x12 I would guess) and I dont see temps in that area. What is your water temp?

You could try to relate oil pressure to temperature. If it's above 30psi but temp says 260F, I'd say you have heat soak in the sensor. Because in my car, over 215F at idle means less than 30psi pressure.

Sensor is in the pan, under the motor mount.
Cooler is in the belly pan, with a 4" duct sucking air up, sealed too.
Water temp is below 200* at all times.
Pressure always looks normal, but I'm running super-oil.

I may just wrap that side of the block in heat sheild.

did you tap the pan and install the sensor there? Or using the drain plug?

Pictures?

The machinist tapped the pan. I have no pics. My turbo sits low enough that it won't clear the motor-mount bolt on that side...so I had to take it out.
