not yet. I still need to confer with DIY on the issue further. I'm going to just run the car and stick the old sensor into a bowl of hot water when plugged in. If that fixes it I'm going to be really pissed off and make a port in the front of the head for the temp sensor.

However, hopefully DIY has an easy fix for me, as far as I know I'm the first person to do this.

I just found out that I'm going back to Austin tomorrow, which means I'll be able to get the car to BEGi to fix a few things soon. Hopefully I can afford it because I just hit up Sav for COPs, and I'm trying to get Clint Pohler of Tuning Concepts to tune it. Then, I plan on squeezing out my glorious payload onto the chests of viper owners at Harris Hill Road. Get ready for the scat party, shit queens (see yellow viper). You've been a dirty bitch, and now you're going to be rewarded with discipline.

Probably would have been cheaper and quicker to make your own COPs harness unless Sav's turn around time has improved. I did get the hold down plate from him which is beautiful though.

I didn't have time to get my cable hooked up last week. I sure as hell don't have time to build cops. I'm ready to dedicate time to the driver's seat, not building stuff. I'm not rich by any means, but I' have a lot more money than free time right now.

bumper mounted chase-cam vids on an MSR member day will be better. This car was built for the track, not highway roll racing. I may have some really, really fantastic dampers and springs for this car in the near future.

here's an old "before" picture, lol

You are free to borrow my Go-Pro anytime for a bumper mounted video montage any day.
See ya when I see ya...... ;)

I just made a 170-mile road trip. Nothing went wrong, didn't have to add any fluids, and I'm not so nervous anymore. That was the longest 2.5 hours of my life.

Fireindc Dec 7, 2008 10:56 PM

So.. when does this motor get to see real boost?

Congrats hustler, boosted in under 7k posts!

its already on 10psi. Its so much fun. I need the 3.90 ring for my 5-speed.

johndoe Dec 8, 2008 12:06 AM

So when are you cranking it up to 18psi?

That's what I am doing this spring, or so I plan to... Hussy, you got the 8.6 compression ratio pistons too right?

yes. I'm trying to keep the trans and rear end together though. Its a track car, not a dyno queen.

m2cupcar Dec 8, 2008 07:58 AM

Yeah, no surprises with more boost = less drivetrain. You need to at least take it on track before ripping up the driveline with too much power.

This is a special moment... you can touch yourself now. ;)

y8s Dec 8, 2008 10:25 AM

SO do you have enough response with the 8.6 pistons? does it have a turbo supra dyno queen power curve? cmon man. lets hear the truth!

BenR Dec 8, 2008 10:59 AM

Good job. Glad to see it together.

well, everyone who's seen the pistons thinks they're 8.1 or lower. However, off boost, even with the wastegate unhooked and the turbo choking things off the motor is significantly stronger than the 1.6 was. However, right now the torque comes on a little late, but tuning will hopefully fix that. Right now the car is a lot of fun. It has a solid road tune, and I'm certain that a few ramp runs on the dyno will make this car a giant.

Now...keeping it cool on the track in the summer will probably be the real challenge.

cueball1 Dec 8, 2008 01:28 PM

I bought a used 3.9 unit for next to nothing out of an old RX7. I'm rethinking whether the 5% difference justifies the expense of getting it installed though. I'm wondering if the move dramatic move to 3.63 makes more sense.

If you want the fans to work you can simply ground the wire that goes into the temp sensor. The fans come on whenever the key is "on." Thats how mine is currently setup.

my car was running too cool with that set-up. I'd like for it to run properly, so both fans to work. I still have to devise a way to do the dual fan thing too.
