1989 1600 Eunos Roadster. Bought it off a mate with a spare set of wheels for £750 with a full MOT, sold the wheels off the car for £280 = $760 car :-)

Has/had a full sports exhaust with tubular manifold and adjustable rate front shocks. Have fitted a set of Toyo T1Rs too it and the handling is incredible, done a couple of track sessions in it too, I seemed to be to the only idiot that turned up with a crosser helmet :loser:

I went to the Nurburgring in March with a group of guys and one of them had at home a turbo charged 1600 Roadster/MX5/Eunos. Had been done the cheap/basic way with 1.8 injectors, FPR, retarded ignition timing etc. After looking in to both ways of going about turboing I decided that I would be happy with just another 30hp or so and that I'd give the cheaper way a go first, if it leaves me wanting more, then I'll go the full management possibly forged way in the future.

I've now bought and fitted a cast T3 flanged manifold, 1.8 injectors, fuel pressure regulator, a cheap no brand turbo which has turned out to be way way bigger than anticipated(!), but hopefully with it being a generic T3 manifold and 5 stud exhaust flange is swappable for a smaller T3 turbo if this one fails to make any useable boost/disintegrates. Home made a full exhaust system out of 2.5" Stainless and am currently waiting to pipe up my cheapy universal intercooler kit.

Heres some pics so far;

Started it up with the old airflow meter and pipe work attatched, exhaust sounds good but is blowing from the V band a bit. I've welded a bracket on the downpipe so it's bolted to the bell housing meaning theres no weight hanging on the V band, it's been ground flat after welding so going to try readjusting it, if that doesn't sort it I may just weld it to the turbo :)

I'm half expecting to be laughed at by you guys, a turbo that size looks like it should be on a 1000hp Skyline or something! But it was only £100, if it doesn't work its not the end of the world and I can buy something more appropriate :x:

you could have purchased a true T3 sized turbo for the same price. and yes, it's large.

get the heater hose off your DP. and get the oil feed off the manifold.

No man loving here ;)

You reckon it'll make any useable boost on a standard 1600? The turbos figures are;

Compressor wheel, 50.5mm inducer, 76mm exducer, 55 trim, AR 0.5

Turbine wheel, 65.5mm inducer, 55.9mm exducer, 73 trim, AR 0.63

I've had a read up on the net and its not looking good, but I'm only after 9 or so psi so hopefully it can produce that before the rev limiter kicks in!

I agree with Braineack on all parts

Got it all up and running, havn't plumbed the intercooler in yet but have a few issues to get through first. The biggest being the turbo is passing a large amount of oil in to the compressor/inlet side. Its a chinese rip off so I knew I was taking a big risk but the thing hasn't even done 10 miles. Has an oil restrictor in place, doesn't appear to have too much shaft play but it is highly anti-social drivin it as is :giggle: I'm going to pull the turbo apart and see if there is anything I can do. Anybody happen to know if a Garret T3 turbo rebuild kit is useable on a rip-off T3 style turbo?

Initial thoughts after a small amount of driving; Quicker, about 10mph so over a 1/4 mile (ish) distance running just 5psi, sounds awesome and smokes a lot :-D
