Ok guys,

I'm finally ready to start installing all the goodies on my 1994 Miata. As I have said in earlier posts this is not my first build. I installed a fairly modified Greddy kit on my previous 1993 Miata.

Here is a list of the parts that are going into the build:

BEGI Shanghai kit $1550
Minus the crossover tube and adjustable fuel pressure regulator from the kit.
Plus stainless braided water & oil lines, S.S. downpipe, and LC-1 WBO2 and digital gauge.

Track Dog Racing Intercooler $300
It is used and designed for a Greddy kit so I will probably need a bit of modification. It also has a Turbosmart vent to atmosphere blow off valve. I don't think I am going to like this and I probably want to trade this BOV off.

Megasquirt $450
Built by Brainiack, with a standalone harness and AIT bung.

RX-7 460cc Injectors $150
These have been cleaned and tested to flow at 472cc at 43.5 psi.

Flyin Miata Turbo Exhaust and Cat $200
I bought this used off eBay. Even though this is "only" 2.5" is was just too good of a deal to pass up for a proven S.S. exhaust and cat that retails for about $600.

So as it stands right now I have $2650 invested in the build, but I should get about $150 back from the Nissan turbo I was going to use. I still need to buy a clutch. Not bad for the quality of components that I will have in the build.

I spent most of the day organizing stuff in the garage and getting ready to start everything. Here are some pictures of the operating room and some of the components. I am still waiting on the exhaust and the wide band sensor to arrive next week.

The work on the downpipe is really nice craftsmanship.

Here are some pictures of the actual turbo. I was very impressed with the quality of it. One look up close and my fears of using a "Chinacharger" just faded away. It is a very nice looking piece. You can see the how Corky mills off some of the original flanges and welds his own pieces onto the turbo. Again, very nice work by Corky and company...

Looks good. What kinda bothers me is the welding they have done on the compressor inlet and outlet. I wonder why they did that

:fawk: You suck. My plans keep getting pushed further back and further back... and you're ready for turbo. That car should be bad ass when its done. Already one of the cleanest NA's around, now it will be fast too! I had started to go back to maybe doing a Garrett turbo instead, but seeing these pictures and your take on the pieces has assured me that it should be fine. My offer still stands, if you need any help, just let me know.

Why does it bother you? I assume they did it so it would have similar dimensions to the Garrett that they use on their standard BEGI-S kit. This way if you want to swap the turbo out later on to a Garrett it is just plug and play.

If you look at the welds up close they are quite beautiful.

It doesnt bother me I guess as much as I'm curious why they're there. If it is for size reasons like you say I see nothing wrong with it.

they do it to brand new 2554, 2560, and 2860s too.

Why do they do it to the Garretts too Scott?

For the money... I don't see how anyone could go wrong with one of the Shanghai kits. I'll give you a shout out when I get a little farther along and you can come by. You haven't seen the missus since we got married. We've both put on about 20 post honeymoon pounds. ;) We just started exercising again this week.

I'm sure they weld on the hose ends to the turbo because the stock turbo requires flange ends the bolt to the turbo like most oem turbos. They are just saving you and them some money by not having to buy/make those stupid flange to hose adapters.

:giggle: It happens. Yeah, give me a shout one day. I work nights, so it would have to be on a weekend. I sit on my ass all weekend, or work in the garden, so I have nothing else to do.

How's the install going Mark?

I've been working some deals on some other stuff. Everything's up for sale on the for sale forum. The complete package including shipping for $2600.

I'd also like to know why they cut the 3" compressor intake off mine and put on a 2".
