Got a little work done today. Spent some time helping Katy with stuff on her car and helping my buddy on his car. That slowed down progress for the day, but it is what it is. Made gussets for the door bars, my forearms and hands are killing me from using a pair of snips to do the majority of the cutting. Also re-pinned my fuel pump, so hopefully it stops giving me trouble.
Was going back and forth on spacing which is why the hole isn't centered on one.
Lol at least you guys are honest! I'm surprised George actually got through the whole thing. But yeah, busy busy the last month.
Was hoping to paint the cage next weekend but I'm going to detroit for a couple days next week which will throw off my prep time. I have another trackday the weekend of the 4th so it looks like the cage won't get painted until the 11/12th. Ugh, gonna be battling rust the entire time it's unpainted. Also need to pull the windshield to paint in there...wooo.
Once the gussets are in and the cage is painted, I'm pretty much done for a while. Just gonna enjoy the car and bring it to as many trackdays as possible instead of throw money at it.
Went to a track night on Friday. Talk about a **** show. Had no idea the run times because everything was running late, run times were all over the place, not even consistent once stuff started. Corner workers were super bad about flagging people. Spent all but two laps behind traffic, with the majority of my first two sessions behind a yellow 924. Even went into the hot pits to try to get into some open air and caught up to people within half a lap. Pacific was also bumpier than I remember, almost didn't go out for my second session cause I was scurred. Car was getting tossed around a bit. Managed a 1:43 a few times while sitting in traffic which is high spec miata time. So not bad considering a **** driver and being behind people the whole time. Car is obviously making up lap times based off power rather than skill.
I definitely learn more as a driver in Brad. Both cars are fun in their own way, but I'm more in control with Brad and feel myself learning much more as a driver. (Weird, it's almost like literally everyone says to start out with a low power car) Did learn the track better and tried out some different lines/braking areas, but definitely didn't get the same feedback on time gained/lost as with brad. Being behind people the entire time didn't help either though.
A couple of things I do need to pick up before the next trackday unfortunately. A new windshield, took a rock at 130 behind a mustang. I was thinking of buying one anyway, no choice now, big *** crack in the windshield. Two, diff brake pads. I figured I'd leave the bp-10s that came with the calipers in until they start giving me trouble, got some pretty bad brake fade in turns 2 and 3a which is a heavy downhill braking section. Ducting would help as well, but I don't feel like it right meow. Other than that and a fan relay getting disconnected in my last session, the car ran well. It's currently at a local shop to get an alignment.
After the track night, Katy and I drove over to the other side of the mountains to visit my dad. He had wanted to ride in the car for a while since I had only given him a short ride after I finished rebuilding it. Got to blast through some twisties and down some straights. He had a good time and we just chilled most of the weekend which is always nice.
Big news though. A house came up with a 3 car detached and 2 car attached. Also checked other boxes such as 4 beds so I can rent rooms and have a guest room in case people want to stay and multiple baths. Also wanted something that could be cleaned up a little to increase equity and lower my current 1hr 10-minute commute. While it was on the upper range of my price that I felt like paying and it was a touch further than I was hoping (still going to be about 55mins in the afternoon). With the 3 car detached and 2 car attached I had to go check it out. Had a pre-inspection and the house looked good so I put in an offer. It was accepted! The counter offered for a closing date of the 29th instead of the 15th but we're now mutual. Really excited about the house, and really excited about the garage. Also has a view of Mt. Rainer from the patio, which is pretty dope.
As for TNIA **** show, sounds similar to my experience and I was in a srock S2000! Can only imagine how infuriating it would have been in a car like yours.
Yeah, it can be pretty frustrating, although I think it might have been more frustrating when people would point me by in brad and then not lift. Just never understood the logic behind not letting people pass you. Are the people that oblivious or is it just ego? Always confused me haha

Throw in new brakes and a windshield (already bought the windshield) and all of a sudden I'm spending a lot more than I wanted. It's unfortunate, and Katy is still gonna go in her car, but with the house closing in the next month I don't want to be spending a whole lot of money right now.
Still trying to figure out when I can paint the cage, I'm waiting until I'm close to painting to weld in the gussets since I won't be able to prep them inside very well once I weld them.
Also been working on Brad's engine off and on this week. Waiting on cam seals to come and then I'll button up the front of the engine. Also installed the qmax and I've been cleaning out the insides of the flat top cause it's all nasty inside and why not, right?
Pretty bummed about pulling out of the trackday, but it's probably what's best right now.
Gonna try to finish up the last bars of the cage and pull the windshield today. Not sure I'll finish both, but I'll give it a shot. This is the idea for the top bars, but notched and shorter on the main hoop. Fronts are already notched. Nothing too crazy, but I prefer it to a single bar down the middle.
