Hey guys I'm Matt. I'm new to the roadsters so forgive me if I come off dumb I'm used to v8 and 'Mercia stuff so here it goes.
I have a 1993 mx-5 miata I scored for $500 dollars of a Middle Aged man that didn't drive it. It was sitting from what he said 5 years. Said the clutch was out so I drove the 70 miles in my truck with a trailer just in case. Got there the interior smelt terrible top was bad the spark plug wires were chewed up and of course no clutch pedal(hydraulics was out) told the guy id take it..

Before i bought it
Got it loaded on the trailer

Sad state I know promise you it gets better.
I got it home I did nothing mechanical I pulled seats the carpet covering the gas tank and the plastic seat belt tower covers cut the carpet out around the dash only to reveal standing water :( well I let the car dry for a day and pressure washed and degreased the carpets and wiped the interior down multiple times. Left carpet out for a bit. Then started diagnosing my no clutch pedal, first changed the spark plug wires and air filter them put a fresh battery well motor turns over but no firing...hmm I jumpered the fuel pump over and no whine. So pulled my Walbro 255 out of a junked car I had and bam car runs! Well I jacked it up and had someone push the clutch pedal and guess what? Slave cylinder is out so took a trip to auto parts store for oil and filter, brake fluid and slave cylinder 20 minutes of labor changing slave out and have the neighbors kid pump the clutch up as I bled it and I had a driving and running car.
Got it inspected and tagged and insured. Daily drove it to work for a week and decided the shit top wasn't going to work no more so I order a 200 dollar top of ebay hoping it was decent quality came in he mail 3 days later so That following Sunday I spend 30 minutes to pull top out. Got started at 5:30 pm had to make a 45 minute trip to parts store for correct sized rivets came back and went to work at 9pm I was bolting the top back in the car and it was clean and decent product for the price. Top does not leak but the seals need adjusting lol. I worked at a car dealership as an expert Diag tech and decided the oval tires I had on the car weren't the best ride so I ordered some cheap tires that'll last 50k miles as I was commuting 60 miles round trip. I removed the old bra that was dry rotted and falling apart, blacked the turns and side indicators out, and painted my rear finishing panel black using plasi-dip.

Well basically didn't do to much to it for a while till I found a set of cheap coilovers on cl for $100 bucks new so decided "why not?"

Front pinch weld 4" rear pinch weld 4.5" I aligned it myself using the hunter machine at my old job. The specs sheet provided is aligned to the most positive camber I could get out of the eccentrics!
Autocrossed it twice made me fall in love with this car. The tires I have are terrible but in learning the car so well

Crappy video my buddies iPhone was in 1080p from his gopro when he sent it to me it got pixelated but still good video.
That's it for now I have a turbo build brewing up custom manifold down pipe and stuff. Will be using fmu and msd module for now till I get enough time to build megasquirt so please don't flame me

Good find. Were your floorboards rusted under the carpet?
Hit the enter key a little more. It will make your text less bricky.

Garrett 60 trim oil lubed/water cooler looks clean minimal shaft play. Should be ordering the stainless els and t's and build a stainless log so should be interesting.

Haha, it sure gives you an appreciation for how little these things are.

Matt94tx 08-26-2014 10:58 PM

Haha yeah. It's funny pulling up to a lifted truck and my cars shorter than their tires, oh well.

Update:
Ordered els and tees for manifold ss 304 sch10 and ordered mandrel bend 2.5" 304 ss. Think I'm going to just make into factory exhaust just for time restraint(have a instructors even sept 20)
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410128917
Exhaust manifold off and intake removed
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1410128917
Front bumper removed
The cone on the exhaust sides the turbo I never seen but it moves don't know if it is ok. I mean there's no much play on the shaft so hopefully it's good! More to come in the following. Intercooler should be mounted soon and cold side routed. How should the hot side be routed?

DNMakinson 09-07-2014 07:48 PM

The cone is a separate piece and is captured by the exhaust housing when assembled. Not saying you should or shouldn't rebuild the turbo, just answering your question.

Matt94tx 09-08-2014 12:27 AM

Ok so theoretically if the shaft doesn't have play then it should be ok? I mean they're a no evidence of oil being burnt and the turbo is fairly clean on exhaust side. Hopefully it'll be ok it was supposably rebuilt less than 10k miles ago

Yes, but please realize that my turbo experience consists of a grand total of 1.

You should be able to find lots of pics of hot side charge routings. Look at the Flyin Miata installation instructions for a rough guide. Tricky with a/c and p/s, but accomplished often. Again, see many build threads available here.

Matt94tx 09-09-2014 03:55 PM

I got the cold side piping mocked up and just have to make the bracket to mount intercooler. I just got a bunch of things in the mail might make a trip to my cousins to use his tig to make my manifold or Atleast tack it up
Purchased an artech oil feed because the feed I was going to reuse was no good. Plus the artech comes with proper fittings. Still deciding where to drill the oil pan as I have the ac still installed. Might go the hornetball route but I have a straight barbed fitting not 90 degree

BTMiata 09-11-2014 08:25 PM

Subbed! Was curious to see where my feed line's new home was! hahaha Good luck hope it all goes together as planned!

Matt94tx 09-15-2014 01:21 PM

My cousin is cnc machining all my flanges and tig welding my manifold up either today or tomorrow. I'm going to finish mounting my intercooler and pipping and hooking up my fmu(I know flame away) and my msd box should be shipped out tomorrow so hopefully by Friday I should get it. So just waiting on manifold to get finished. Should be buttoning it up

Matt94tx 09-20-2014 08:29 PM

Well still waiting on the manifold to get welded up. Unfortunaly couldn't finish it up or have a day off from work to go to the instructional event today so loss of seat time there. However I did install my fmu and my msd box. And got half my cold side pipe done including mounting bov. But question does it matter if the outlet is pointing towards the ground or hood?
