MiataGarage's Build Thread
Hey I'm from Germany and new to the Forum
I'm into Miatas since 5 years now and having my own Shop in Germany for used Miata Parts and Cars. First a bit of History: Last Year i had a Customer who had a Turbo Nb Miata with lots of Parts ,but the Car was not running properly and he has spend lots of money and time into it,so he finally has had enough . The Car was build by a Shop in Germany (all in all 3 Shops tried it over the last years :hsugh: ) His proposal was : I get all the Parts when i build it back to stock with well preserved stock Parts . So i did it ......... Parts that i got from him : Build Engine (15k Miles): K1 Rods Gtr Pistons 6 Speed Transmission Hgp Turbo Manifold (German Brand ) Gt2560r Turbo Hgp Intercooler/piping Setrab Oilcooler FlyinMiata Downpipe 3" Flyinmiata Cat Flyinmiata Catback 3" K-Sport Coilovers (Special autocross edition) K-Sport 6Pistons Big Brake Kit Innovate Wideband The Headgasket has gone because of the shitty Mapping with stock ecu , a auxilary heater with kinked hoses ,no coolant reroute and the old stock radiator....no wonder ;) I bought a white 1990 1.6 Miata for this Project : http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150113/sfj8sj6m.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150113/crvh7rpr.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150113/zpp5a3l7.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150113/q96jhdlb.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150113/8j5gy4mz.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150113/i7lb9nxx.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150113/e6tjsxqo.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150113/rtetmtb6.jpg http://fs2.directupload.net/images/150113/u6zihilt.jpg http://fs2.directupload.net/images/150113/ammrjydc.jpg http://fs2.directupload.net/images/150113/ctmbjm2y.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150113/ggszky3q.jpg Pros: It was repainted a few years ago It doesn't has many Rust Cons : Technically it isn't in the best condition but that doesn't really matter Engine is burning oil Manual Steering is broken Suspension Components are broken Electric Installation is "creative " The Interior is "tuned" It has had more then ten previous Owners |
The first Thing i've done today is disassemble the Front and Rear Subframes for Powercoating and rebuild with Pu Bushings (949 Racing)
http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150113/zuoplhro.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150113/qm6yuan3.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150113/5o9xvf76.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150113/ynvwdtu7.jpg The Subframes are frome a Nb Model They don't have many rust and are in good overall Condition The Differential you see there is a 3.6 Torsen 2 Lsd and will be swaped in as well |
Hi, where in Germany are you from..?
|
This thread looks like it could be interesting. Welcome!

First Thing i did today was to finish the Subframes that i can give them to the Powercoater
The Hubs and Wheel Bearings will come from an Na later http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150114/zugvlurv.jpg Next Thing i did was stripping the Interior because the Carpet ,Dash and almost every other Part had Scratches ,was horrible painted or broken. Electronic installation was just as bad Many Cables led to Nowhere. I'm swapping in a complete 94 1.8 Harness in it and fix the other Stuff http://fs2.directupload.net/images/150114/o5srt2y6.jpg http://fs2.directupload.net/images/150114/s4ot7ek6.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150114/8cxg29c2.jpg http://fs2.directupload.net/images/150114/zwz8hvco.jpg http://fs2.directupload.net/images/150114/823foklf.jpg http://fs2.directupload.net/images/150114/6mq88uto.jpg The Rear became a black Panel and a Kg Works Spoiler which will be painted black and mounted with rivets The old Taillights had scratches too so i changed them ;) http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150114/7jbj2mbp.jpg http://fs2.directupload.net/images/150114/ijsy3uup.jpg http://fs2.directupload.net/images/150114/oshpdd48.jpg |
Great progress. I like the look of that spoiler
|

Hi! I'm from Germany near Frankfurt, too! I live in Hofheim. Will be watching this build, the chance to see this one in person is a lot higher than most of the others here ;)

When i'm finished we can meet somewhere no problem :bigtu: The Goal is to be completed by no later than end of May ,because i will take it to the Alps and Croatia this Summer . |
Some new Parts arrived :
Stiffer Motor Mounts 71C° Thermostat Cometics Head Gasket New Valve Gasket Used Gtr Valve Cover (very rare here ) So i decided to take the engine apart to do the Hg job and stuff The Head will be machined down next week ,because of the shitty Cr Ratio of the Gtr Pistons. I don't know the exact Cr Ratio ,some say 7,8:1 ,some 8,2:1 !? The Pistons are from a Mazda 323 Bg Gtr (familia in the US i think ) http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150116/slu4tbkk.jpg http://fs2.directupload.net/images/150116/4dn7x5l5.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150116/chczfqwj.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150116/bkwstp83.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150116/5sbcw6n7.jpg http://fs2.directupload.net/images/150116/8c9qm4kv.jpg http://fs2.directupload.net/images/150116/lmgehl94.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150116/vl2bafv2.jpg http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150116/52svnz46.jpg I definetly need a new Camera :D |
I'm swapping in the complete Harness of a 1994 1.8 Na like i said ,so the Camshafts ,all sensors etc. will come from an 1.8 Na
I'm going with a Ms pnp3 ecu wise. The biggest problem in this Build will be fucking german Tüv :fawk: |
Specs of the Engine at the moment:
K1 Rods Gtr Pistons Arp Studs and Bearings Rx8 Injectors Gt2560r Garett Hgp Manifold Fm stage 1 Clutch The Rest is unknown........ Plans : 550cc Injectors or 1000cc (if i do an e85 map) aem fuel rail Fuel Pump 255 Walbro or Bosch 400 Lightweight Flywheel coolant reroute oilfilter relocation Parts around the Engine will be powercoated too Power Goal is between 250-300whp Engine was dynoed at 257 crank hp |
What do you Guys think about a water/air intercooler in the Engine Bay ?
Apart from the Complexity of such a Setup it should only have benefits i think..... As i said the Nb Turboconversion was originally a complete HGP Kit with a gt2554 Turbo The only Thing changed is the Gt2560r now It has a tiny fmic intercooler wich isn't PnP in an Na Modell...so i'm thinking about a Upgrade . The Radiator will be a Mishimoto 3 Row with a shroud and 2 Fans |
Someone will be along shortly to convince you not to go water/air intercooler. I will say though that you shouldn't do it. There are plenty of good affordable intercoolers that will be a better choice.
What are you doing for engine management? What are the laws in Germany in regards to aftermarket engine management? |

I think you misunderstood. I meant that someone with more knowledge than me will tell you not to. And you just did. I was just giving my own opinion based on me reading a dozen people being told not to go water/air, but not based on any real science or personal experience.

What are you doing for engine management? What are the laws in Germany in regards to aftermarket engine management? In Germany a Ecu may not be adjustable in any way...this means you eventually can run a programmable Ecu(if you want it to be legal) but only when it's "sealed" But even that depends on the tüv auditor and his willing :vash: Even if the Emissions are ok, that doesn't mean anything ,if you don't have THE Report they want which can cost many thousands of Euro. A normal emission test doesn't count for them You can make a Turbo Miata with stock Emission "Euro 1" (Na's till 1996 ) with a good tune to pass "Euro 2" or 3 no problem but like i said that doesn't count if you haven't the papers they wont But everything you change for example turbo conversion ,other tranny ,diff , more power all in all, other Turbo, even a catback, suspension without certificat you must pass THEIR emission test and/or many other things can make problems. A Tuning Shop has often much more Scope with tüv approval instead of a private person . It's the old Game Money and influence wins If you import a skyline for example or another vehicle ,which wasn't offical sold in Europe ,you have a little more chances My "MX5" is also a Us Import that means the "Key Numbers" (don't know the Word or if it even exist in the Us) are all zeros ,so they don't know what was stock in this Car from factory ;) German Tüv doesn't have any documents of this car they registered it as a normal Mx5 but can't say what was stock and what not ;) When a Car freshly comes (not registred ever in the Eu ) you can make a Single Turbo Supra street legal :fawk: It's unnecessary complicated here ;) |
I just wish governments would decide to say, Hey, we don't want nasty polluting cars in our country - If your car pollutes more than x% over stock then you either fix it or pay a "carbon tax" or something like that.

-You shouldn't be louder than X% -You should pass Emission like stock -You should only buy and drive quality Stuff that won't kill you and others on the street like some China Shit could do That would America also do well  -Upgrade your brakes, suspension and tyres if you go high Hp But that's about it...the Rest is money making K-Sport Coilovers for example are a couple hundrets more expensive here because of the tuv approval....we all know they're the same ;) You can't even make a pair of fucking expensive Volk Racing Wheels or Tein Coilovers street legal here without having the Connection or the needed amount of Money to go to a Tuning Shop. Quality doesn't count it's been so since i'm in Cars (11 years ) On the other Side they legalise cheap Crap like TA Technix Coilovers (Raceland) . The european Distributor of them takes some Money and make his shit legal............ It's the same with cheap Wheels ,which break permanently......Rotas and xxr's are bulletproof against some of them  Take some "Motorsport proofen" Parts (brakes, seats, steering wheels ,cage etc)which are really tested during hardest abuse over years in racing you won't get them legal if nothing from the above said occurs. Even Saftey Stuff like a Rollbar for the Miata is a Problem ,because neither a Harddog or a Trlane has a Certification. Next Thing is they're mounted on 2 Points where the stock saftey Harness is mounted......this is the biggest problem for them 2 SKREWS :D They should personally do a Rollover WITHOUT a real rollbar first to get a impression of what it's like :naughty: "Style Bars" which will break your Neck in an Accident if you're unlucky are no Problem I do it like this to get a registration (was already first registred in 1991) : I do the Stuff Tüv wants : Brakes ,Suspension,Motor ,Rust etc I put in a 1.8 Miata Na Engine for Tüv that i have no stress and the Time of 2 Years to find a "normal and cheap "Aditor who makes the Engine street legal The most important Thing is to make it registration capable no later than end of May . Because in July i will take it to a big Camping Trip to the Alps,Croatia ,Bosnia and Montenegro :bigtu: If someones interested : First trough the Alps (not me in the Video) some might know this Road from TopGear "Drivers Heaven" :D Then Croatia: |

I must add that I'm more than flattered at the "And you just did." |
I'm thinking i go with a normal air/air Ic ;)
I've been already thinking so before i asked the Question because i read some threads about it on Cr What do you think is a good size for the Ic with this setup and the goal of 250-300whp ? I want it to spool early for Canyon Runs |
And now we wait for the real experts to come in...

When Fm says : "You have a complete donor car, so you can just use the 1.8 ECU and wiring, right? Nope. Sure, it’s possible, but it’s going to make your life dramatically more complicated for little, if any, benefit. " " If you call us to ask if it’s really that bad, we’ll tell you it is" Simply trust them :vash: I changed everything twice and 3 times and got no spark The Harness came from a Car which was running before I have no idea where the fault was. Now everything works ;) I welded some Points on the Undertray and clear of the Rust https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1446311030 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1446311030 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1446311030 Engine and Subframes went in : https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1446311030 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1446311030 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1446311030 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1446311030 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1446311030 |
