Mini FD (slow build)
 

Hey everyone. Ive been lurking on here ever since i got my miata. I was seriously thinking about turbo'ing my car until my neighbor bought his Fd. I instantly loved the sound of his car, and since i could never afford one, I'm going to build my own.

Progress so far: I bought my 10ae two years ago all stock. I went through the "hellaflush stance" phase but i was always missing something; power. Bought a 2002 toyota rav4 and started using that as my daily, and then I started tearing into my car. Removed engine, transmission, and engine harness then thought to myself "Oh i don't need all of these wires". That was my first mistake. Long story short i cut too much, didn't use any wiring diagrams, and now I'm rewiring the whole car.

Can't you score another harness from the junkyard?

So does this mean you're past the phase and finally ready to build a nice car?

Yes. After three oil pans, ppt bolts every two months. and a set of frame rails I'm ready for a real car. I could buy another harness but it will just be easier to start from scratch and build it the way i want.

It definitely won't be easier to build a harness from scratch.

Unless he wants to go all custom and wire into standalone of his choosing, but that car better not have to deal with Ca emissions.

I couldn't imagine building a whole harness. that's like 38 different colors and 2 wire sizes. Or else it goes like this " ok, I'll just follow this green wire to....oh crap, I have 17 green wires"

my gawd your this far, just go get a harness .

If you want more discouragement about building a wire harness - look at the last few pages of my build thread. So far it cost me like $400 in crimp tools. Once you get to the 12 gauge wires for the headlights, you need a proper (expensive) crimp tool.

Also good wire is fairly expensive and you need multiple colors and gauges.
