I already showered and scrubbed pretty hard on all the scrapes. I also covered them with neosporin

Google "3M Tegaderm". It's a clear adhesive bandage that allows the wound to breathe without getting infected. You can also watch for bad **** happening, and you don't have to change it nearly as often (IIRC you swap them every 5-7 days). It also keeps the wound moist so you don't end up with super-tight scar tissue. It's a little pricey but absolutely worth it. BTDT, my hand is just about back to full mobility after I fell on it 18 months ago from ~30mph on my road bike.

Oh ****. 18 months is a long recovery time...I am lucky to have decent dexterity in both of my hands.

I just purchased a lot of them, and in different sizes.

I'm guessing they are waterproof, and stick pretty good, if they last that long.

Do you have any experience in rashguards, or other protective measures against road rash? Short of wearing a motorcycle racing suit every time?

My problem was scar tissue across my knuckles. It's not as pliable as regular skin, so if you allow it to grow in with your fingers straight, you'll never bend them again unless you have the tissue cut out and start over. I have pretty gnarly scars across my first knuckle on my index/middle/ring fingers on my left hand, and a small scar on the pinkie as well, so that's where my ROM issues came from. The actual wounds were healed up in 3-4 weeks, but the ROM took some time to get from 90% to ~100%.

Tegaderm is a synthetic skin, so it lets oxygen out but it won't let water in. It's pretty cool stuff. You can wear it through showers and sleep with it on. IIRC the only caveat with it is that you want to remove and drain/clean things if it starts to fill with fluid. The worst thing you can do is puncture it and leave it on (infection city). I am not a doctor, though, so talk to one if you see something that you don't like.

Nope, not really. I don't think I've ever seen anyone wear any protective equipment on a road bike beyond a helmet/gloves. By the time you add enough protection to guarantee against road rash injuries, you've got so much clothing on that you'll sweat through it all.

ah, OK, I'll make sure to make a fist often with my more affected hand. Hopefully that will help with healing properly.

Yeah, I found these two piece oval pads that clip over fabric. I'd have to wear leggings and long sleeve, but i guess if i fell, I'd be fine. So I guess i have to decide if its worth putting on all that gear every single time i go out with the bike or not.

From a safety standpoint, its a nobrainer, but it really kills the whole "wind on my skin, spontaneous" feeling.

So... here's an update.

suspension, transmission, diff pumpkin are all out of the car. Sitting pretty on furniture dollies, one under each subframe.



Here's the pile O parts... sending the xidas for a (hopefully) warranty replacement, with my luck it will be just a rebuild. Transmission is UPS freighting to JO Motorsports for a brass shifter setup with a full race rebuild. I HATE the way the trans shifts, I want it smooth and fast. Also will try Ford Motorcraft fluid on the rebuild, maybe that will help the baller synchros.



Here is the delrin bushing kit hi_im_sean makes. Every part is labelled. comes with the zerk fittings. Some of the sleeves were too short, I didn't even know yet, and Sean sent replacements right away. He is very thorough and informative. Dont hesitate to ask him questions about his product (in the bushing megathread first!)

Yeah, with this round of mods, I wanted to increase road feedback, and make the suspension work even better. coaxial top mounts (which i think the xidas should come standard with) the bushing kit, and steering rack mounts.

Thanks, the paint is in almost horrid condition, but because of the color, it manages to look pretty good even when completely filthy.

Another little update... I have had the Flyin Miata stage 1 clutch for under 3000 miles, and the pressureplate has a very deep groove from the throw out bearing. Just typical for me... buy premo parts, send literally all of them back for quality control reasons. Here's a pic... the groove is about 1/4 of the way through the metal fingers. completely unacceptable, considering almost all the miles are highway in 6th gear.





FM will be sending a new HD TOB and stage 2 pressure plate... I didn't like how soft the engagement was, we'll see if this is better.... I'm so tempted to just go with the SuperMiata twindisk, just because I wouldn't have to worry about a clutch until I build the engine.

Ceramic twin disc will suck on the street. Also will be more expensive to replace when the TOB wears through the plate.
