N/A track car

<drama>After tracking a gt2554 for a year I decided to get something different. Warped/broken studs, cracked downpipe, etc were beginning to annoy me. I was on the TurboTim list when life told me to take a break from the track so I bailed out on that. Looking back, it was probably a bad idea to not follow through on that turbo kit since it turned out to be such a great setup for the track. A little later I realized I wasn't completely broke and a N/A miata showed up locally for sale that looked like it would make a fun track car.</drama>

95 miata w/ 01 camaro ls1+t56 v8r swap kit
5.3l tsp ported heads
tsp 228r cam
400/410 hp/tq at the wheels

The easy to remove stuff was gutted from the interior, a full spec miata cage was installed, the exhaust was redone to allow the car to be lowered to a reasonable height, the 100 wet shot nitrous setup was removed (:bowrofl:), the aero was swapped over from my white miata, and an accusump was installed.

It has a FCM revalved 500/300 suspension setup. Sadly, the rear is already resting on cut bumpstops and will probably always be in the bump stop under power no matter where the ride height is set. I'll take it to the track on 500/300 setup and then try out 750/400 springs before throwing more money at the problem.

The rear is a ford 8.8, 28 spline with trac-lok clutch-type LSD. I'm debating on swapping it with a torsen t2r LSD, but that will have to wait until after some track time.

The goodwin v3 kit is on the front with stock rear. DTC-60 pads all around. From some testing on the street I think the DTC-60s are going to be a great track pad and the carbotechs won't be missed. I also have some cobalt xr2s I'd like to try out. The brakes are eventually going to need an upgrade.

I just finished it up last weekend and want to take it to the track as soon as the weather clears up.

Working on and driving this car is what made me finally dive into our newest shop car build that I had been thinking about doing for the last year and a half. More on that in another thread next month. ;)

Wonderful car, gave me a good chuckle merging onto freeways.

This is the only Miata I've ever driven that's faster in a straight line than my car is. Silly, silly power.

Mike, you're coming to play with us in Unlimited next year, right?

hustler 12-18-2010 11:38 PM

Nice ride.

Is this the 'my boyfriend's car is faster than anything' liter bike car? o.o;

Lies. No power is silly. Just maybe not useful all at once.

That being said, this car is awesome. Glad to have had the pleasure of riding in it.

To quote Mark Donohue... "If you can make black marks on a straight from the time you turn out of a corner until the braking point of the next turn, then you have enough horsepower."

Love the car Mike... looks like a total blast!

Wow, just beautiful. In for vids and more pics.

while I understand thats it is an N/A car! It is totally misleading to call this thread "N/A track car". I have to admit, I was surprised by the fucking v8 under the hood. I was expecting a story about a poor guy like me tracking his N/A 1.8L miata. Its fun, but the straights take foreeevvver!

And back from the dead...doh!

imput1234 10-19-2011 03:57 PM

Car looks so mean, any updates on it? Track shots?

Seefo 10-19-2011 04:01 PM

^nahhh, he hasn't posted in almost a year.

Took it for a short drive this morning. It's lost a bit of the sleeper look even without the wing and front splitter. Not sure how I feel about that, but it's nice to have a bumper that does a better job of covering up the front wheels.

Those are the 15x10 correct?

IMO one of the best looking Miatas ever.
