Default "Nugget" Ecotec track toy

Hey guys & girls! I'm back. Again. With a Miata #6.

Say hello to "Nugget", my newly acquired '97 Miata track toy. It's currently at 114k miles.

I've had the car shipped from Oregon to California and it just arrived yesterday. I've yet to put it up on the lift but here are all the modifications I've identified so far:
  • Suspension
    • KYB GR2 shocks with stock springs
    • RB front sway bar
    • RB front sway bar brace
  • Engine
    • Kraftwerks Rotrex supercharger
    • AEM F/IC 6
    • AEM wideband
    • Raceland header and an unknown exhaust (probably eBay)
  • Interior
    • Hard Dog double diagonal roll bar with a harness bar
The tune on F/IC is far from great. It runs around 10.5:1 at load and bugs down on tip-in. Obvious solution? MegaSquirt! Currently waiting for MSLabs MS3 to come in the mail. Will get the car tuned by a professional as soon as I find the time to install it.

Short-term plan:
  • Chassis
    • FM frame rails
  • Interior
    • Momo Monte Carlo 320mm steering wheel
    • NRG short hub with NRG quick release
    • Cobra Imola S seat
    • 6 point harness
  • Engine
    • MSLabs MS3 Ecotec LE5
Long-term plan:
  • Suspension
    • TrackSpeed 11.75" Dynapro BBK with DTC-60s
    • Feal 441 Road Race coilovers Xida V2 800/500
    • Polyurethane bushings all around
    • New hubs and other wear items
  • Engine
    • VVT head
    • Squaretop or Skunk2 intake manifold
    • 640cc EV14 injectors
    • Racing Beat header
    • TDR overdrive pulley
    • Oil cooler
    • Coolant reroute
    • Cross-flow radiator
  • Chassis
    • Door bars
    • Fender braces
  • Aero
  • Many track days

As a bonus, here is a picture of my daily driver (2016 Cadillac ATS-V sedan 6 speed manual):

Pretty sure I sold the PO some parts from my parts car, including the muffler. He just took my cut-off tool and went to town on the midpipe, lol.

Haha! That's pretty brutal. I don't know who originally put all the modifications on the car as it wasn't the nice lady I bought it from.

Enlisted a help from a friend and we have installed the following today:
  • Xida coilovers (800/500 rates)
  • Blueprinted front hubs (didn't have enough time to do the rears today)
  • Control arms with poly bushings
  • Singular brake ducts
Also installed a 320mm MOMO Monte Carlo steering wheel. It's silly how small 320mm really is!

Just wanted to update the thread:

The supercharger is off the car. I'm dropping Nugget off for an Ecotec LE5 swap this weekend.

Nugget is at Pit Garage to get LE5 installed. Just waiting on some hardware, CTS pedal, starter, and alternator.

Have been looking at your thread for a while

Stock NA subframe. This car is destined to become an Exocet at some point so I'll be switching to tubular then.

Here is what we've done so far:
  • The new engine is in the car. It starts and IDLEs superbly. Waiting on a few minor components (vacuum distribution block, air filter), but I'm planning to pick up the car from the shop on Wednesday.
    • Low mileage (under 20K miles) LE5 from 2008 Malibu
    • Retained power steering (although I might have to ditch it when I go turbo, for intercooler piping clearance)
    • 1320 Performance Polaris header, custom 2 1/4" downpipe into 200 cell 2.5" cat into 2.5" Yonaka (eBay) exhaust
    • E67 ECU with an unknown tune (was dyno tuned by PO)
  • The suspension is pretty much done:
    • Xida V2 800/500
    • Polyurethane bushings in NA control arms
    • New upper ball joints
    • New extended lower ball joints
    • New LE tie rod ends
    • New Treasure Coast blueprinted front hubs with ARP studs
    • RB hollow front sway bar
    • RB rear sway bar (will probably replace with an OEM rear bar, will see after testing)
I'm going to try making it to a drift event my friend is hosting on March 18th where I'll be able to do an initial shakedown. I will need to install my 3.9:1 Type 2 Torsen with Delrin mounts, new rear hubs w/ ARP studs, and LRB undertray before the event. After the event, I'm going to install the following (have all the components already):
  • Brakes
    • Wilwood master cylinder
    • Wilwood prop valve with remote adjuster
    • TSE gen 2 front brakes
    • Braided lines in the rear
    • DTC-60 pads
  • 15x9 Advanti S2 w/ 225/45/15 NT01s
  • Blackbird Fabworx rear spoiler
  • Chassis & safety
    • Frame rails
    • Door bars
    • Car Make Corns green stitch suede seats
    • 6 point G-Force harnesses (will upgrade to Schroth Profi 2x2 later)
  • Misc
    • New speakers & stereo
    • Oil pressure and oil temp gauges
    • Cappuccino washer bottle
    • Hood prop shock
Hoping to complete the whole car by the end of March so I can get it corner balanced and start going to events next month.
