What is the function of this thread? Have you found a way to make $$$$ from clicks on MT.net?
Let us know when you have pics so I quit wasting my time looking for them. DNM |
Rish bought a boat. That's what the thread is about. I think it is getting a 2.5 swap at Cam's house.
|
Yes, I gathered that. Seems to be the preferred route. I just want pics.
Now that I have your attention, @sixshooter , is your car running? What are your plans for it? |
Esslinger engine?

You need to have Cam 2.5 swap it before you pick it up. Also I touched your car this past weekend. Had I known where it was at, I would have brought you a tshirt and left it for you.
Also I have that captains hat. It gets bitches. Bitches love BOATS. I'd love to have Cam 2.5 swap the car but the car was just about at the top of my budget. I'm pushing past where I wanted to be already. Cam said the motor runs pretty strong so hopefully it'll serve me well for a bit till I get the funds together to get a swap going. Cam recommended just going a basic swap... But id really like to do at least a mild build even if it's just basic cams. Hopefully hitting 180-190 on 91. That said, In the NA/NB MT world everyone makes fun of the ecotec swaps but don't they put out a similar amount of power? I know the NC chassis is pretty amazing.

How long have you had a boat man? How's your car post swap?

How's my car looking though? I still haven't seen it. I just know that I'm supposed to possibly start looking for a driver door and front bumper cover haha. ne of Cam's friends is 'borrowing' the exhaust for a few tests this weekend. Even he gets to play with it before I do! |

Fixed! How's my car looking though? I still haven't seen it. Even he gets to play with it before I do! I have had my boat for a little over a year now. I have put about 2500 miles on it, 2300 of those going to and from Cameron's place for engine swap. Compared to my Mazda2 the 2.0 felt great. The 2.5 feels so much better. I am looking forward to adding boost sometime in the fall. |
Oh also, this happened.

When you get to Cameron's, he has a black boy. Expect him to push into the bathroom while you are pooping, then climb up on your lap, and give you a hug. Then he will aggressively start licking your face. I now know how gay men feel when they are rubbing bearded faces up against each other.
|
As a dog guy on a hairdressers car forum that has a sub-niche revolving around cats, I often ask myself how I ended up here...

One of my best friends has a cat that decided to jump up on the couch I was sitting on, walk towards me and nuzzle my face, then freaked out because I was so close and scratched me on the face and ran away. I had no fucking clue what even happened lol. Dogs are hard during training though. If we lived together full time, then maybe, but for now this is pretty great and we lucked out! |

Nuuuuu. Not anytime soon. Maybe in the next year or two. |
Welp, already daydreaming about the 2.5 swap. Need to plan out and budget to see how much I can spend but hopefully I'll get a little bit of money for my nc2 motor to offset the cost.
Build option 1 Typical 2.5 swap with esslinger stage 2 cams. Maybe a basic spring upgrade for safety. Estimate 190-200rwhp and tq slightly below that. Likely about 1200-1500 total cost, maybe less once I sell my motor. Build option 2 See if I can source oem ecotec pistons with esslinger stage 4 cams for a slightly higher compression build. Costs would go up significantly due to needing to do bearings, springs, maybe rods etc and even more if this is something I'd end up having to pay a shop to assemble. Likely 2000-2500 for everything maybe a bit more with assembly. Less whatever I get for my motor. Estimate would be like 220-230rwhp. Unsure of tq but likely around option 1 if not a bit less. Anyone have thoughts? Vtechkiller is firmly in the build 1 camp ala KISS mentality to get something enjoyable that's more reliable and has less chance for headache. Option 1 also leaves the door open for boost down the line. Thinking of doing the swap sometime next spring. I just applied for fellowship and may gift it to myself if I match well! |
Build option 1. You said at some stage you'd like for your mother to have the ability to drive it IIRC? I don't know your mum, she may be Janet Guthrie in disguise, but if she is like mine, I don;t think she would like stage 4 cams :p
|
Just throw in a stock 2.5. Don't waste money building it. Then add boost when you are a rich doctor.
|
+1 on 2.5 swap, leaves more on the table for an EFR kit down the line :likecat:

Someone suggested doing the higher compression motor but using the esslinger stage 3 cams to keep it a bit more daily friendly and I'm intrigued.
I need to call the guy that built my NB motor and see if he's still doing his thing. |
Against Cameron's better judgement, because mine is clearly suspect, I've decided to start collecting parts for the high comp piston build.
Will shoot for 220-230 on pump 93. Currently mixed on whether or not I end up doing the rods, but in terms of the 'might as wells' it seems to make sense. Given the nature of the 2.5's, you can't really rev the stock setup to much past 7k without a bunch of risk. I think Cameron sets the rev limiter of the cars he tunes to about 7k, but most cars make peak power at 6500-6800 so it works out. With rods, it's feasible to spin up to 7500 with a little bit of a margin, which sounds like it would certainly make things more interesting. Goal for the cost aspect of things was not to really spend more than a (2 wk) paycheck on this. I'm due to apply for another credit card to build credit and found something that would give me a grand in cash back if I hit an attainable minimum over 3 months. Will likely throw that 'free money' (aka taxed bonus) into the pot to get the build all set up. Already been stalking a yard out near me and they have some good motors but I need to do a few things before I can go buy one since I have nowhere to put thanks to the apartment living. Goal at this point is to have parts collected and motor bought by mid october, so I can drop things off at the machine shop when I'm on vacation. I'd love to assemble the motor myself since it would take a ton off the budget, but I'm not sure it's worth learning on a project like this where a mistake would totally screw up the timeline and inconvenience not only me but also a friend who's being kind enough to let me use his garage/lift for the swap. |
