Uhh, I'm reading that post and homeboy is saying all sorts of stuff that doesn't sound right, like not using a BOV and such.

He went through a lot of growing pains, but the results toward the end include doing real tuning (via HPT) and running very fast times.

There are a lot of these guys doing rear mount setups. Smallish exhaust pipes and small charge piping is how they are managing to make them work.

102+ mph in the 1/8th mile with 6.0 liters breathing through one 2.5" pipe.

The 18" would be a huge pain to make fit, but probably possible. The 14 is a lot easier to do.

glasspacks and small tiny body mufflers like above are a huge waste of money and time if your goal is to cut down noise.
they kill resonance/rasp, and make very little difference to overall noise

Uh. I'm 90% sure it will be louder than I like with literally no mufflers at all. I like quiet. So I'm installing something. I'm gonna do one glasspack since fitting one is easy, then see what it sounds like. If it's too loud, I'll need a muffler that fits. I posted dimesions, I have limited space in the back, so just asking what would fit and work the best.

I know a big muffler is better than a little one, big one ain't gonna fit.

The longest the long side of the muffler is, the less low end resonance/lower Hz frequencies it will emit from the tailpipe. Can you get a corvette SI/SO muffler to fit there?

I know what you're saying, and I understand your space limitations, and you know how obsessed I am with quiet cars, that's why I'm saying tiny mufflers won't do much. it will be like 99.5% noise vs 100% noise.

I tried this on various cars, and small resonators and even mufflers did next to nothing. That's why we all love the giant maggies, they are actually very effective.

I have an Apexi ECV (exhaust control valve) left from my Subaru that I used if you want to try it. It's manual so it doesn't fail like the cutouts, and goes into a 3" exhaust and basically opens/closes from 100% free flow to like 10% free flow.

It was very effective on my Subaru. And it's tiny

OP can you run a long bottle muffler transversely and loop the exit above it back to the passenger side? Like 180* out of turbo-> through transverse muffler-> 180* and straight abover muffler ->90* bend to exit at bumper? Like the twin loop setup minus the part going back through muffler again?

In all seriousness, if the big magnaflow is say, a 80% reduction in noise, you're saying the small ones are 0.5% reduction in noise? Is that actually true? I mean I know they aren't as good, but surely a small one would help some, at least 20-30% quieter vs nothing?

I installed a valve on my last setup, it melted at the track. I should post a pic of it, that's probably why the SC wasn't running as fast in the 1/8th as it did before, the valve melted and blocked 1/2 the pipe.

vtec- I was going to do thd 180* thing originally, but there really isn't enough space to pull that off. The corvette muffler looks possible though, will check into it.

I was just as surprised and disappointed as you are when I tested this.

Now, it was with my naked year that I did this, so percentages I posted are just opinions/guesstimates, but honestly I could tell no difference.

I don't know how you melted that valve, unless it was cheap or aluminum? My wrx put down 428whp and ran 11.7 @ 122 multiple times at the track. Valve looks like new when removed

Several factors are at work here, case shape, size of long end, packing material, etc. What is the worst offender to you, low frequency drone or mid range volume? The low frequency drone is the easiest to kill, but it requires space or a bunch of math.

you want size and much girth
(I know, that's what she said)
the thicker the packing, the better. that's why glasspacks and resonators don't work well as mufflers. they don't actually "muffle" noise

It was cheap. I didn't expect it to fail though, it's steel. But it did.

We'll see, I'll try going through Magnaflow's website more later tonight, try to find the biggest one that will fit and order it. Something has to be better than nothing.

This should be obvious, but get the largest (oval cross section) and longest case you can fit. That is about all you can do.

Length helps with boom and drone. Case size should help with overall volume.
