Another part of me wonders how many axles you're going to go through before you mail the inner halves of two of them to The Driveshaft Shop and say "Build me a pair of Boss Frog #3 axles, but with these inner CVs on them."

not stock block

and think about how much abuse those axles took up to this point. we're talking years of non-stop thrashing at the drag strip

Cryo treat the next ones to make them stronger or step up to larger hubs and even bigger axles.

I realize that the bouncy parts aren't stock, but unless there have been some major developments recently which I missed, I'm pretty sure he's running a stock block and crank. My point there was to differentiate from people who have done engine swaps.

I'm sorry Joe, that were horrible phrasing you used. Stock block means stock block and everything inside it, has since the beginning of time for all platforms.

Swapping rods and pistons is not stock block.

Correct, and there are BP's that made 600-800whp so his is not the highest "stock block" either.

But I see what you're saying now Joe

Even a loose axle nut can ruin a bearing, they're meant to have the axle in the hub or they'll be damaged. My boss doesn't even let us take a car off jack stands when it has no axles. was it towed flat bed or tow dolly?

Block means the metal casting which houses the rotating and reciprocating components. Stock block means a block made by Mazda. This would be in contrast to either an aftermarket block (common in other markets such as Honda and Chevy, but unknown in our universe), or a non-Mazda block (eg: an LSx).

The word which means the block and everything inside of it is "engine."

And yes, I'm aware that, as 18psi has said, some folks are making 600+ HP on stock blocks. I just haven't seen any of them twist an axle in half. Presumably they are more attuned to the concept of mechanical empathy, and do not routinely perform drag launches.

That's all fine and good, if you want to be pedant.

Saying "stock block" to a car guy means one thing 99.9% of the time. Wikipedia isn't changing that.

At least one is using a Ford 9". And I'm assuming most others have switched to other rear ends.

Also +1

In the context of MT, it is standard nomenclature that Stock Block is = to Stock Short Block, which would include crank, pistons, rods, and likely, oil pump.

A buddy of mine twisted the transmission output shaft clean off for whatever that's worth
400+ and clutch kicking the car in 6th gear (I know....)

Brakes are way less strong and powerful than the drivetrain of a competent turbo miata.
