220whp with 4.10 and 6 speed was fun, albeit a lot of shifting. Here's me doing some "pulls" when the MSM was slow (near stock) and you can get an idea of how often you have to shift.

1st: 27
2nd: 47
3rd: 65
4th: 80

This was with a 6400-6500rpm redline

Maybe put a 3.9 or 3.6 ring and pinion on while you have it out of the car.

if they are, the vacuum line will vent after a while.

I just checked and they were touching ever so gently... Just moved the slack in the hose so it's no longer touching that line. I'll keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't shift back

FINALLY made it to the current end of this thread, haha. Good read so far for info. Hope things keep moving forward well for you. I've run into a bunch of problems from day one with my car - but not quite to what you seem to have run into. Trying to get smart before I put boost to mine. The engine blowing 3 days after purchase wasn't fun though. nor was needing several weeks after the swap to figure out that the stock ecu somehow blew.

Good luck!

I hate to ask, but I've gotta know... given the way the build has gone, would you still piece it together basically from scratch if you had to do it over? Seems like this case a kit would have saved from a cost perspective. Just curious. Can't put a price tag on education, though.

Yeah I think I would have probably saved up and bought a no electronics kit from FM. I have so much $$ into this thing that I will never see again. between the car and all of the parts, I would say I probably have $12-$14k (maybe more, but i'm scared to really tally up every odd and end lol) into this thing and if I put it up for sale I would maybe see $7k if i'm lucky...

If I just went FM kit + MS I would be under $10K and still have a fun car, with similar resale value to what I have right now

Yea, but you can't put a value on all that you have learned!

thanks for sharing and the education. I think I already paid for my car twice without adding any 'fun' stuff. But I've always wanted a fun car that I could play with so I'm still happy to have the chance to build something my way.

No problem.. Glad I can spread the knowledge... I tried to document every little thing that I came across in hopes that maybe it would help a few people out down the line!

The miata is definitely the way to for a fun car to learn a lot with.. No regrets so far lol

Tonight won't work for me... Forgot my father in law is coming at 5 to help me finish a bathroom project in my house. I have to send Ken another email and find out when would be best to bring it by!

Ugh got a 4 point "Improper Passing" ticket today for using the shoulder of the road to turn into a gas station. The cop was sitting in traffic and I went right by him. I figured he would have given me a BS non-points ticket but he must have been in a bad mood or maybe he just hates miata's... Hope I can get the points dropped in court. I have a squeaky clean record so hopefully they will let me off with just some fines. I really dont want my Insurance to shoot through the roof

Un-eventful last couple months... Just been driving the car casually once a week if I can. I just put a deposit down on Amellrotts 3.9 torsen swap and he is delivering it next Friday so im excited to get that swapped in. I also need to do a real conversion on my steering rack, swap in my moog ball joints that have been sitting in the garage for a year or so, have my tires re-balanced and get a fresh alignment, and finally get a decent tune from Ken Hill. Hopefully I can get everything checked off my list by the spring!

Oh joy... Went for a cruise yesterday and by the time I got back home I started hearing what sounded like an exhaust leak. Pull it into the garage and yep, sure enough it sounds like I have a pretty bad exhaust leak. I got frustrated and walked inside to set up my new computer because I really didn't even want to mess with it. Hopefully its just a v-band clamp or some loose manifold nuts or something.... Worst case scenario is that I have the same problem that Curly has with his Artech side-mount.... If that's the case... ughhh

Can I have your 3.9? Exhaust leak, **** I wish I had that. I'm still staring at this motor in disdain
