Ya know, compared to the last 2 '01+ stock Miatas i've driven, I like this one considerably better. Granted, one was a 32k mile butt-licker base model that surely had regular fuel in it, and the other was a beat up 74k mile '02, but even so... I think I prefer the characteristics of the '99-00 engine

I REALLY like this car.

I'm going to attempt to drive my MSM on Monday

The code is P1135, HO2S Bank 1 Sensor 1 Heater Circuit Low Input.

Which is funny, since I mentioned to Ed the o2 sensor looks brand new. Maybe they were chasing this issue before it was wrecked?

What's this for anyways? It's next to the intake manifold, and I don't think it should be disconnected and just sitting there, but what do I know. I'm fairly certain it's part of the fuel system, but again, it's working great.

And are these three relays OEM? I think the one on the right is for the alarm, or are they all?

I'm 99.9% this car is a Canadian model.... Because in the passager side has a federal sticker in French/English and is not the u.s federal tag

Our airbag parts say Ford on them too. Ford and Mazda were pretty close back then. Some of my best Mazdas wore Ford badging.

That's too many anyway.

Though I could use a spare Ti colored hood to make a vented one....

I believe my 2000 has 3 relays bolted to that plastic air guide, but none of them say "Ford" on them. I can confirm tomorrow for you. Someone may have gotten creative with replacing a dead one.

Also, I find it interesting that someone would bypass the pulsation damper like that. There is absolutely no reason to do that, unless you jacked up the connectors trying to remove/reinstall the fuel supply fittings? It's kinda hakneyed TBH. How does the rest of the fuel system look? There should be NO hose clamps ANYWHERE on the NB fuel system.

Regardless, get us a shot of the exhaust manifold.

Cal Spec: Front o2 wiring connects at the front of the engine and cat lives next to the block, front sensor screws into manifold before the cat. Rear o2 connects at the rear drivers side next to the coil pack and sensor installs in the downpipe under the hood after the front cat. Cat in midpipe is unmonitored.

Fed Spec: Front sensor installs in the downpipe under the hood and rear sensor connects through a hole in the trans tunnel to a connector under the carpet on the drivers side, and screws into the midpipe after the "main" cat.

I have ELI5 MSPaint diagrams I made of both the Fed and Cal spec exhaust & o2 sensor locations I made for someone on M.net if the above is verbally too complicated.

I had to bypass my dampener when I had the cold side stupidcharger on there. Otherwise there should be no reason for sure.

Get us some detailed shots of dat engine bay.

we'll get all nancy drew up in this mess.

I'll take some pics tomorrow. Sounds exactly like his cal spec description though. Both o2 sensors are in the engine bay, I removed the mid pipe an there was definitely no sensor.

What's that mean? Anything specific? Or just more emissions crap.

the ca spec 99-00's have the uber retarded pre-cat crap and are NOTORIOUS for constantly throwing the CEL for o2 sensor. Its either bad cat or bad sensor or both. On many of ours it would just pop up, we'd clear it and it wouldn't come back for a long time sometimes ever. Its so weird and stupid.

Just emissions crap for the most part. Super easy upgrade on the exhaust is the 2001+ tubeular exhaust manifold, heat shield and egr tube. The precat is unnecessary and the iron manifold weignts about 50lbs. The install of the later 01+ hardware is trivial (other than maybe relocation of the stock o2 sensors) and in my experience, resulted in significant butt-dyno results at anything over 5k rpm. That iron boat anchor really chokes things up. I know you didn't really wind it that far out but if you like it now, you will love it after the manifold swap. It's honestly my favorite upgrade on my 2000. The Racing Beat header is even better, but bang for the buck the 01+ hardware can't really be beat.
