Holy ****.
So it's not that a rev limited AP2 wouldn't beat an nice NB2 if limited to 6k, it's just that an unlimited one would really destroy them both.
What moron designed such a shitty car? Who made that engine and thought "yeah, that'll work great."

Have you driven one? It works pretty damn great.
I mean look at that graph. Below 6k rpm it's like a pretty healthy torquey 1.8. Then when VTAAAAAK kicks in it becomes a high revving high power motor. They're a total hoot to drive.
This one I drove this morning... not so much. He said the Vtec was set to switch at like 4000 rpm instead of 6500 like stock (on the AP1). But instead the thing just didn't feel like it pulled quite like it should. Maybe I need a torqueless recalibration after my car though.

Isn't there a reason (as in engineering reason) that VTEC sets in at 6500. Like how vvt has a most effective switchover point. Seems like you could be losing power/torque?

The purpose of my question is this:
Never letting the S2k go below 6k RPM still allows you to 3k of usable RPM. In a Miata, on track, 3k of usable RPM is 4000-7000 typically, unless you've bumped that up.
All I'm really saying is that most of the time it'll likely be a moot point it would seem.

The problem is I want money. So he needs to do a K-swap.
No I'll be honest, cause I've discussed this with Ed:
absurdflow mani+dp+turbo+wastegate=$3k to the right buyer
built msm motor=$3k to the right buyer
tse built 3" exhaust=$500
that's $6.5k, and the k swap costs $4k? Can an engine be had for under $2.5k?
This is assuming once you get all the money out of the engine/turbo setup, half of it doesn't go to shipping and the other half doesn't go to kayaks.
