Great build IMO. Though I'd put the door bars out to the door skin and ditched the interior panels IF I was going to compete in this car.
To shlammed's point- it pays to build/prep for safety following an established sanctioning body's guidelines per their rule book. I've seen similarly built car/cage get denied at a regional. Safety is really the primary concern when getting a log book.
re: lap times
Personally I cut my quickest laps when I'm competing. So throw me out at a track (HPDE) event and I'll run 2 seconds a lap slower. I know when I put my current street Miata on the track I won't come close to pushing like I do an ITA/Spec Miata. My guess is the same thing holds most back when tracking their project cars. It's balancing act- saving a second or two off a lap time at a far greater risk of wadding up a lot of work. Also need to consider that lap records in Spec Miatas are exactly a "stock" Miata- not when a front running example is $30-40k turn-key new from a builder.

Turbine housing is a TIAL .63AR
Located in the Midwest so will run @ BIR, Mid America, and possibly Road America. We have a handful of customers we work closely w/ that run the RTA series tuhs was the motivation behind this build but since they have moved the majority of the events down on the lower west coast idk that that will happen anymore.
The thoughts crossed my mind of going full blown race build and gutting out the doors and such but i decided for this build to be able to keep it a little more subtle and be able to keep the panels/windows etc thus being able to take it out on the streets and screw around. I have another chassis that suites better for a completly gutted/cut up project that is not in nearly as good a shape as this one.
Fueling is done w/ Walbro 255HP, ID 1000's on E85.

I still have more learning to do myself. My best time as a Spec Miata is 2:57.816 on the full track. Meanwhile, Brian Domont holds the current NASA full track spec miata record with a 2:51.996. (yup, I have a ways to go before I can hope for a podium finish on the full track :( )
Were you running 205 50 15 Toyo RA1 tires too? I was able to get better lap times with 205 50 15 hoosiers for an HPDE day but then it isn't technically a spec miata any more
By any chance are you running spec miata suspension? When you were running in NA form, is your engine totally stock (no overbore pistons or other engine or exhaust mods)? Do you also know what weight you are at? (curious to know if you are under or over spec weight with your very respectable times)
From the sounds of it, you'd have a good chance of getting to the podium if you ever decided to try w2w racing with a Spec Miata with such a great 1st time your fist session running NA on the full track!

Suspension is revalved bilstein and 750/400, front bar and no rear. So its close.
Motor is 100% stock, 96k on the clock. Borrowed obx header/oem cat. My custom intake manifold that is all likelyhood is hurting me due to it all breathing through a giant Intercooler... worst intake tract ever.
225/nt01, so almost a 205 RA1, basically the same tire. That is also with hefty cheap wheels and what not also.

Maybe it will be one of those magical 5 speeds that holds up fine, forever. I wouldn't plan on it though.
