Not common, but it happens. Pressure prime it. I've started doing it with all engines that we've built/rebuilt or that have sat awhile.

4" grinder > Sawzall. The grinder made some love with my tunnel, bulkhead, and rails. Next time I'm just going to pick up a plasma cutter.

I don't understand these hoops some of you guys have jumped through to prime the oil pump.

All I've done is coat the oil pump gears with assembly lube, pour *some* oil into it, spin crank with timing belt disconnected (and cams in a position that no valves will hit piston)

You're right on coating the pump gears, but after the engine is assembled w/o it you need pressure (or vacuum). In my case I'd planned to prelube the entire engine before since it had sat for 3 yrs.

I wish it built oil pressure that easily. Last time I had to do this, after I put in the relief valve simply spinning the motor for 10 seconds with the starter and everything else disconnected built pressure fine. I was hoping it would be the same this time, unfortunately it was not.

Bro, I am still waiting for the promised updates to your build thread. Also if I had some glasses I would have totally bought some Tugs to match the suspenders I bought at Dumas and Sons.

I havent tried it myself, but my uncle used a half bottle of automatic transmission fluid along with the standard oil in his rebuilt 67' challenger's engine to break up chunks of lube while priming his V8 along with a shop vac to a used oil filter with a hole punched in the top.

But his almost breathes about 700hp to the wheels and no control. Its the scariest car I have ever been in. It also lives on pure race gas.

How long should the shopvac have to be on to pull oil out the turbo feed line? I had it running for about 3 minutes tonight and nothing, I was spinning the motor by hand during this time. I am going to try with the oil filter tomorrow.

That was my shopvac hooked up to the oil feed line. I ran the shopvac for about 3 minutes and spun the engine by hand with a giant breaker bar on the front bolt. I also spun the motor with the starter briefly and nothing. Today I will try pulling from the oil filter. Then I will try pumping oil in through the oil fill port on the oil pump.
