haha yeah. WHen I'm feeling silly every now and then I consider removing the oldass creaky BBK, going back to the 1.6 brakes and rocking the daiseys and trolling the local ricers.

But then I realize I have no idea where the local 'ricers' hang out, what they drive, why I care.

I've only had one 'race' in the time I've owned my car, and that was a week or so after installing the base GReddy kit/bipes. It was a Z3x? Lumina or cavalier, some GM shitbox, with 4 people in it, and I was able to hang. Nice.

Actually I had another highway race after installing my Starion I/C. Was able to hang with a ricebox fartcan civic si. Boooyahhhhhhh

My car has basically the same route of intake...... it actually makes a difference vs the standard intake box behind the driver's head-light.

Get yourself a square-top and a RB header then you'll be GTG!

The car is not staying NA. I also have the sticker that FRT_Fun posted sitting on my desk at home. I threw in a spare VVT motor that I have to be able to drive the car while built engine is at the machine shop. Once built motor is done again, I will be swapping that in and going back to BOOOOOST!!!

Yep thrust bearing was fucked up in the built motor. We think it heated up while trying to crank with no oil and spun the bearing out. We only pulled off one main cap and the crank looked fine. The rest of the motor will now be pulled apart and we will see what is still usable, and what is unusable. We are hoping that it is just a slight hone on the block, new rings, and new bearings. I will get pics next week hopefully of it all apart.

Thrust bearing hit the bottom of the piston. Also I need a new crank. Glad I have 2 of those sitting in my garage.

Meh. It is life. I am a bit more preoccupied at the moment with something a bit bigger.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayum.

So what's the best guess for the fault? Bad assembly by the shop? Your fault for the oil problems at first? Shop's fault for the oil problems? Nobody's fault, just bad luck with the oil pump?

I also saw a yard sale sign down the street this afternoon on my way home. They had some mighty fine bikes outside. I might try to score one for $20 so I can become a bike guy.

Built motor is finally done and back in my garage. The problem is I have no free time at the moment so I won't be able to put it in the car until sometime in September at the soonest. I really ******* miss boost.

Default Half measures

Okay, so since I've gone trubo the engine has run rich (black smoke rich) and after our first outing at Streets of Willow there's been loads of oil spatter. It seemed to be coming from the valve cover--or oil return. After a re-seal of the valve colver with some gasket sealer, same problem even when the engine didn't see over 5k.

Half-measures--I've got an oil catch can, but before putting it on I wanted to try the valve cover vent route. It's half of Shiuend's solution as I only cut out half of the plates. I also used a new Scotch-Brite Green pad as I didn't have any stainless steel wool or copper wool on hand. The Scotch-Brite acted the same as a steel wool pad under a flame, so I figured it would be fine under engine temperatures.

We'll see if it works on the way to Cars n' Coffee tomorrow. If not, an oil catch will be added per Shieund's descriptive diagram.

So in summary:

--removed the vent plates in the valve cover
--drilled out the vent hole between the center and outside vent
--added a vent hole on the driver side
--added Scotch-Brite to condense oil vapor
--cut down the vent plate on the passenger side

We'll see if it works tomorrow...

So I skipped work today due to an extremely long last 2 weeks. I was exhaust and slept till about 1pm. After getting up a friend sent me a message saying he needed to have me weld up a hole on his exhaust. Since I figured I would eventually be in the garage, I might as well go get to work on pulling my motor. It took me about 2 hours to get everything disconnected from the engine and transmission working at a leisurely pace. I had to take a break to go get a pan to drain my coolant. It took me about 30 minutes to drain coolant, disconnect coolant hoses, and pull radiator. Another 45 minutes after that the engine was out of the car.

Usually the extension cord is hanging up on the wall. I had it down because it was powering a light, and my impact gun. Hopefully hours are decent this week and and I can start getting stuff swapped over to my built motor and get it in.
