Turbo hasn't come in yet, but I'll let you know as soon as it does.

For now, here's something I noticed. I know there chinachargers out there that use a non-standard DP flange. I was looking at the pics of the turbo you linked, and it doesn't quite look right:

Hopefully I'm wrong, but if the flange is not a Garrett standard flange, I don't know where to get a one that fits. Can you find out from the seller?

It actually is the correct flange, but the cavity is a different shape on the churbo so it makes that bottom bolt look way off. The Garrett dips toward that bolt, but the churbo doesn't.

I had one of these turbos, but sold it before I installed it because I wanted something that would make more power. The studs fit my fancy ARTech downpipe just fine.

Things in churbo land can change at any second though, so your mileage may vary.

It was 6:45AM PST when he posted that, so just before 9AM his time. I don't think the postman gets up that early

I did get the turbo today, and it's definitely not a Garrett flange. Take a look:

This turbo's flange, on top



So they did supply a flange, but it's a non separated flange. AFAIK no one makes a separated/divorced flange for this turbo, so the only DP I can make with the supplied flange will be a single exhaust pipe like this:



Also, the flange is a 1/2" solid cast piece. There is no cavity on the back side, so the WG flapper will be limited to just a few degrees of range. About this far open:





This along with a smaller than Garrett WG hole, I think, will lead to boost creep.

Is this a known issue with chinachargers? I know the wastegate bracket is a new design, but BEGI sells the same downpipe for their chinachargers and garrett turbos, so I don't understand what the issue is.

Not all chinachargers use the same flange, that's the issue. Begi only sells china turbos that use the standard Garrett flange.

18psi ran into a similar situation with his ebay 3076

Contact the seller of the turbo and ask for flange.

I did contact them 20 minutes before they closed today, haven't heard back yet. I'm guessing if they do anything they'll offer another flange like the one I already have. That or this is a china error in machining or casting they haven't addressed with the new design.

You could take a hole saw and modify it, yes, but like I said you'd have a fairly custom downpipe that wouldn't work with anything else. I wanna be able to bolt the stock turbine housing on Hustler's turbo and bolt it on my setup when he's too chicken to continue tracking his car.

I really think this is a temporary casting flaw, something they'll fix down the line. For now I'll most likely return it for something else, which will probably require bolt on flanges for the compressor inlet/outlet.

Got any ideas on what you plan on swapping for? I may follow your lead there, or I may just stick with this turbo as when I upgrade to a 1.8 engine, I'm going all Artech, so a fucked up DP doesn't matter much to me.

I'm not so sure about that. I recall seeing quite a few of these cases come up on a handful of other forums as well - Civic and DSM forums more specifically.
