Some racing organizations require one-handed release for safety reasons

others just do a circle jerk

Good point! I didn't know that. Now I know why the lock button on the NRG QR can be disabled.

Story time

Recently I've been thinking more and more the look of my car. I want to get rid of the rust and make it look nice. With the amount of rust there is, it might almost be cheaper to properly install +30mm widebody overlay fenders/quarters that Trackspeed sells.

So with +30mm widebody, for daily driving purposes, I'd want something some 15x9 wheels with roughly 0 offset -> clubroadster territory.

Sometime later I came upon an ad for some BBS RM 15x9+15x8.5 wheels. BBS RM are 2-piece wheels, meaning the inner barrel is same for all*** of them and the lip can be replaced. The barrel is 6" wide with 4.5" backspace. So with 3" lip you end up with 9" wide wheel and 0 offset - perfect!

But then I remembered that I have Trackspeed's size-of-the moon brakes. I threw a template together, based on information from willwood's site and FM 11" BBK template. I haven't verified that the template is 100% accurate, but I did confirm some of the dimensions - like the caliper outer radius for 11.75" rotors, which is 171.7mm.

Long story short, the template made it about half way inside the barrel before getting stuck. The barrel is literally too damn narrow for my brakes. At first I thought - what a shame... but on later thought, these damn wheels are like 15lbs, I was about to pay $300/wheel, and they needed new lips and refurbishing anyways!

TL;DR buy Trackspeed brakes, they are like a good wingman who will prevent you from making mistakes and buying shitty wheels. I don't get the fuss with BBS wheels. Maybe BBS RS are nice... but they are still 20+ year old tech. Modern cast rotas are almost as light and have better brake clearance...

949 wheels? They make about every size you might realistically want...

Yes, and I would rock 15x10s on the street if there was a street tire available. Unfortunately no such tire exists so I'm limited to maximum size of 15x9 for street. And 15x9 6uls would look funny with flares/widebody overlays.

...I did go back to questioning why the hell do I want widebody overlays anways. There aren't any reasonably cheap track tires for 15x10 either.

It's a different league, but I always think you're better off finding the best price/performance ratio consumables, and buy the hard parts to match. I've saved a LOT on tires over the years shopping that way....

I'll probably be running closer to 350whp on street and probably no more than 300 on track. Its a lot easier on the drivetrain.
I guess what I'm saying is, sure I made 450whp once, but to actually have that much power ALL THE TIME is just mad. I need to find out how much power I can make on the "normal" wastegate actuator and maybe come up with low boost/some boost/all of it boost switch.

That just makes it more like a Formula 1 car then, no sounds.

There is nothing else to it. Just hitting 25+ psi is enough adrenaline for a good hour.

Also give me a break, I spent all winter driving a 80whp auto nissan. So theres a bit of an adjustment curve...

RIP Soviets 6-speed. I hope you have something lined up for when it goes, cause I'm guessing it won't take long if you keep making videos like that
