Today, I made a downpipe bracket. The purpose is the bracket is not to support the weight of the downpipe, but rather to restrict it's movement. Since it's all V-band, it can rotate, if, for example, part of the exhaust hits a speed bump.

I made it out of a 3" exhaust clamp and a 6" T strap bent 90*. The strap is like 12 or 14 gauge galvanized steel, so it's sturdier than it looks in the photo.

exhaust clamp - Buy Rol Exhaust 3" Heavy-Duty Muffler Clamp 517300 at Advance Auto Parts
t-strap - 6 in. T Strap-66T at The Home Depot

All the holes even lined up - I didn't have to drill anything, just trim the edge of the strap.

I don't know how I feel about using that bolt on the transmisison.... technically it just holds the transmission bellhousing.

That bolt is fine, and that's the one I use for all my dp brackets too. And hte bracket looks good too. All around win IMO. Good job.

yay winning!
I also had a small issue with, what appeared to be, minor misfire/hesitation at WOT. I changed spark plugs and it went away. Plugs looked good BUT first plug hole had oil in it. Uh-oh. Turned out I just spilled some oil in it

Compression tested the first cylinder and it's still at 170psi. So no problem.

FYI these spark plugs - NGK Spark Plugs 4091 - NGK Racing Spark Plugs - Overview - SummitRacing.com - resistor-less NGK

did a few pulls, tried a timing map faeflora made me (a little bit more timing everywhere) and tried virtual dyno. car runs like a champ although exhaust still makes some odd noise... I thought it wasn't hitting anything anymore QQ

red is 13-20* timing, blue is flat 11* and slightly rich AFR in top end. This is 4th gear.. unfortunately the app is semi-broken... have to use NB profile becase no option for 6spd NA, lol.

oh and knock is exactly the same for both maps. so I'm happy.

Glad to see all is ok.

You prob have 15-25hp left on the table under the curve with timing.

We can work on that a little tomorrow.

I'd try working on the topend actually. See if you can get that torque not to drop off past 6....Otherwise thats a glorious curve, if it looks the same on a real dyno that's just bauce

It looks very similar to my actual dyno, except actual dyno spooled faster and made moar torques.

Drove the car to work this morning and now I have 4x the knock for some reason. Went from 6-8% knock @ 2500rpm cruise to 20% knock @ 2500rpm.

There is a new exhaust noise and I think sensor picks it up as knock

found source of noise... ugh.

exhaust tip area goes around the rear bumper support and hits it. might just run straight pipe on dyno/strip :P

If I didn't take Fae's advice I'd still be running a T25 on a stock motor. He gives good advice mixed with bad advice, you just have to figure out which is a good idea and which isn't.

Unfortunately that part holds my tow hitch, otherwise I'd cut it off ages ago. I might "notch" it a bit though.

See, this is where you need Fae. Not tuning your car. Doing what he does best.
