Build: Supercharged Ecotec NA
Purchased this car in June of '17 as a dedicated track toy. Having built kit cars etc in the past wanted something that was less of a unicorn, and something that I didn't need to spend every waking hour wrenching on. My kit was 99% wrench, 1% drive. For this car I don't want that level of wrenching if I need something installed, take it to my mechanic, I just want to drive! The car came to me with the Ecotec swap already done, I had almost bought this car in '16 so when it came up again last year, I jumped at it.
WhenWhen bought it had the following: 1991 Miata in White w/ 246,000kms hard top Ecotec 2.4 5 speed HSD coilovers upgraded front sway Stock rear sway 15x7 Enkei wheels, puck hard Dunlop Direzza tires (205/50) Flyin Miata 4 piston Wilwood kit stock seats MT Motorsports Roll Bar Original never rebuilt control arm bushings Open diff Alpine stereo no power steering No aircon Since then I've done the following custom 2.5" cat back stainless exhaust 3.9 Torsen Diff w/Delrin bushings 15x9 Advanti Storm S1 with used RS3 (new tires this season) New Xidas with 800/500 springs Kirkey Intermediate Road Race seats flat floor mounted GForce 6 point harnesses Fully rebuilt control arms from ISC racing (delrin and sphericals) Removed door cards, replaced with aluminum AutosportsLabs RaceCapture/Track Removed stereo Removed speakers This coming season: Supercharge the Ecotec (Cobalt SS Supercharger) full front air dam with splitter rear wing APR 200 Remounting driver's seat even lower (I'm 6'3) Upgrade roll bar for better harnesses install TrackSpec hood lovers New Rivals or RS4s Here's a picture or two. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...4993003962.jpg Above: Toronto Motorsport Park https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...ead19c21dc.jpg Above: Autosport Labs RaceCapture/Track w/Nexus Tablet https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...41e3de4174.jpg Above: Ecotec Engine when I took ownership. That subframe rust is nasty! Car is looking good, can't wait to see what it does with a blower. What version of LE5 do you have? |

Do you like the Trackspec Hood Louvers in terms of cooling did you notice a significant difference? I've been wanting to order a set but debating between Singular and Trackspec as they are both on backorder.

how did you fit the cobalt ss supercharger? Did you cut and weld an elbow for the throttle? Some more pictures would be great! Love the build btw

That is perfect. That’s how I had thought of doing it. I have a spare m62 supercharger at home I can try to do this and see how it turns out.

Just curious of you heat exchanger setup, Which one did you end up with? I am debating turbo or supercharger for my ecotec swap. Just got the swap all finished up. I ended up putting some 3.08 gears in my ford 8.8 and would like the lower end torque of the supercharger to pull it at the lower RPM. Trying to come up with a parts list to try to start putting everything together.
