FYI these are 1/32DIN size; learned that when printing something similar for mine!

G3ML1NGZ 06-22-2021 01:10 PM

I had never thought of DIN sizes in other contexts than radio sizes. single and double. Good to know

Winter is here again and I'm already changing things. Got the Vmaxx extremes and all new 30%stiffer bushings for the suspension arms. Planning on tearing everything apart, sandblasting and painting before reassembly.

I am also in the process of having my garage epoxy coated so I can finally work in good conditions.

Well, I've been busy with life but progress has been made. A simple bushing install turned into sandblasting all suspension components and subframe, painting it with cerakote Burnt bronze. replacing all bushings, all ball joints, front hubs and studs, new front ABS sensors, cleaning the wheel wells and reapplying the black rubber-ish coating. Decided to learn to zink coat too to restore the suspension bolts that were still in decent enough condition.

Subframe dropped with suspension intact since lower bolts were just completely seized

Also, new garage is such a huge improvement over the unfinished mess I had to begin with.

Wow, that's some seriously nice work. I forget how lucky I am to have easy access to replacement parts. I doubt I'd have the patience to do all that plating work for bolts I can have delivered in a couple days for not so much money.

And that is a very nice looking garage!

G3ML1NGZ 08-08-2022 09:40 PM

hahah yeah. purchase prices, plus shipping and then tax of them combined on top of that starts adding up so being able to restore some things is good. Plus I am using it as a stepping stone before I dive into anodizing. I often envy you guys up on the mainland how accessible everything is.

Thank you on the garage comment, I'll change it a bit more once the miata is out but so far it is a world of difference.

But I have a question for the hivemind. Gear oils are kinda limited here but Motul has a good dealership though. Which ones of these would be suitable for the gearbox and diff?
https://www.motulisland.is/is/vefver...jalfskiptiolia

Oh yeah, and I printed a new center for my wheel

DNMakinson 08-09-2022 12:46 PM

None of the Motuls in that add (Unless I overlooked it). You want the Motul 300 75W90 (No "LS"). It is good for XMSN and Diff.

Side note on the beautiful bolts: Did you electroplate. My concern is hydrogen embrittlement. Those bolts may be low enough grade and heat treat that it is not a concern, but I would look into that.

DNM

G3ML1NGZ 08-09-2022 02:57 PM

I hadn't thought about embrittlement to be honest. But as far as I can google it shouldn't be too much of a factor on a large bolt like that but I'll definitely keep an eye on it. I was supposed to be sent on a plating course at work but Covid hit and my airline decided to put that on hold. Otherwise I could've given you a properly informed answer.

And I'll check on the dealer tomorrow if they have that oil or can order it. Thank you

DNMakinson 12-15-2022 10:00 AM

What did you find out on the Motul?

G3ML1NGZ 12-17-2022 08:24 PM

Found the one you linked in the backroom of my local store. They had stopped carrying it but I know the guys and they dug it up for me. works well.

newest news is that I got a new job in industrial NDT and preventative maintenance. no more airplanes for me but a new house in the capital and a dedicated hobby garage.no mods to the car this winter most likely but next winter I want to rewire it and go with a kraken manifold and a BW 6752. Right now it's just about setting life up in a new place so the miata will just sit until next spring

DNMakinson 12-17-2022 09:43 PM

All good news. Congratulations on new job. Took me a few minutes to cypher Non-Destructive Testing.

sixshooter 12-17-2022 11:07 PM

Congratulations on the new job.

G3ML1NGZ 12-22-2022 06:18 PM

Thanks guys :) it's not fun having to put your toys on hold but it'll be much better in the long run. I'll have more money for toys once I've settled in even if I moved to the capital.

Congrats! I always enjoy your thread and look forward to your updates!

Been pretty active recently. Learned how to tig weld, mainly learning on aluminum. But I decided I needed a proper welding table and a storage loft for the new garage so I needed to try my hand at steel and what a treat it is compared to aluminum.

Waiting on a few pieces but so far it's flat and square
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...af10a9c007.jpg

And miata is on daily driver duty over the summer.

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...cde6bd1995.jpg

I'm pretty stoked to be able to weld now and that opens up so many mods for me.

But I also have a question. Iceland is implementing E10 fuel everywhere, and it's the first ethanol fuel we get over here. I've got AN lines in the engine bay, a Deatschwerks fuel pump and injectors. I'm guessing the soft lines on either side of the fuel filter need to be replaced, but what else?

States have been E10 for years. I don't know of anything that had to be updated on Miata or any other car.
Mostly, your VE table will be slightly off as the Ethanol has less energy and you will be a little lean. Not sure how much. I'm sure others can tell you exactly.

World leadership... close farms but start burning corn in cars. Gotta wonder.

We have E5 and E10 here in GER and the difference is very very small. Like a swing in outside temp small.
No need to upgrade any of the factory stuff for the E10 fuel.

Workbench and car look great, built me a very similiar table and it's so much win. Uber expensive to buy that new against DIY

G3ML1NGZ 05-21-2023 06:26 PM

Thanks for the input guys. I won't worry too much about it then :)

And Vierte. I am a huge proponent of making things myself unless I know there is an option that's definitely better than what I can make myself. I'm just waiting for my table top to be delivered from the lasercutters. 3.5m long and 8mm thick. I'll then use a magnetic drill to make the mounting holes for welding accessories in the section that's left empty in the pic.

G3ML1NGZ 06-19-2023 06:49 PM

In a way this is a miata update. Welding cart and workshop table are now ready. The supports in the corner are a base for storage loft that'll be built in the fall.
