So I finally found a Jeep that i liked enough to get.

All and all shes trashed. A lot of rust, a lot of dirt all over. The wiring is a rats nest and shes got death wobble (front leafs are loose as all hell so i hope thats it). No mirrors, nothing. Seems like a big big project.

Specs
D44 front and rear with Chromoly axles. (front welded with hub locks, rear has a locker)
6.0l stock Vortec engine.
4l60e tranny
xj np231 t case
12k winch
4 link rear
4" lift
37x12.5 interco Trxxus M/t
hydraulic steering assist
That's all the important parts that i can think off

So here she is.

(if this is only for miata builds feel free to move it to the bs section)

A 6 liter and 37's on a YJ?
I bet it's under powered and gets stuck everywhere.

TurboTim 08-13-2015 08:52 AM

In for the win. I want a jeep. DO IT.

XJ transfer case...different?

Half doors and hard top are nice.

5.13 gears

First few steps... wash the SOB. the guy didnt clean it at all, theres mud...everywhere. The inside smells like fuel because of the fuel cell and the dude spilling fuel everywhere.

After that, tighten up the the front end and take the winch off (until i figure out the wiring)

So i got a chance to work on the jeep today since for once we got some nice weather. Ripped out most of the wiring. Unfortunately the shitty amazon seller i bought the electrical tape didnt ship it till thursday.. bought on saturday soo i couldnt tape stuff up. Anyways, cleaned up a lot of the stock wiring and got rid of few extras the guy did.. bunch of wires that were still on the jeep that dont connect to anything.. cut at one end, i follow it and its cut at the other end..

Next week if its the same the plan is to get rid of the bunch of red wires going from the battery across the engine to the driver side with 1 single 4 gauge wire and tape up/mount the wiring loom/relays/fuses. Also gotta figure something out about the ECU (the aluminum box)

Got some more done today.

Ripped out the entire stock wiring after finding what i need and fixed few problems with the pcm as well as find a nice safe spot for it instead of it being in the engine bay.

Nothing fancy just a rev video since the engine is finally running.

Pics in a min.

When i unplugged the ecu i found 2 ripped pins. Both connectors were corroded since the PO had it sitting in the engine bay. Anyways. fixed that issue. Soldered, the tape is on there just for extra precaution.

Holy shit! Now THAT is a project.

SchmoozerJoe 09-21-2015 03:07 AM

Needs more power washing action.
But looks like a fun project.

gesso 09-21-2015 03:13 AM

PVC pipe intake? LOL yay Jeeps!

Also please paint over the monster crap on the doors :hatecat:

Chiburbian 09-21-2015 07:45 AM

Since this is miataturbo... Megasquirt in future? I would be tempted to do so if I was already re-doing all the wiring.

Monk 09-21-2015 12:37 PM

What a mess!
I like it.
Are there good places to go wheeling in our area?

concealer404 09-21-2015 12:40 PM

I can't believe this thing ran. O_O

That will happen, i wanted to get the fragile electronics taken cared off first though like the pcm being in the engine bay.

The intake will get replaced. The pvc pipe is way too bulky and the radiator hose gets pushed against the hood. Yes a repaint will happen but not a priority.

The orignal PCM is actually very good for custom roms.

The good news is that if you come out there, Monk and I will join you once our rigs are up and running. :likecat:

I plan on playing there and Haspin Acres.

aidandj 09-21-2015 09:15 PM

Switching to 19hz changed my life. So much better

triple88a 10-04-2015 04:18 PM

Figured out my blinkers and brake lights.

triple88a 07-12-2016 11:31 AM

So i finally got it started yesterday. Ran like a champ.. at 105c i decided to shut it off. Radiator is cold so i figure the thermostat is shot from sitting all winter. The waterpump is turning properly.
