Weed whacker build

11 Attachment(s)
Turns out my dad got a new weed whacker because the old one was old, leaky, and didn't have all the new add ons, so he gave it to me. I thought about adding a turbocharger to it. It IS possible on a 2-cycle engine, although the turbine will see a lot of oily exhaust. Also, a different carburetor will need to be fitted for a blow through application, so that the bowl and feed will not get pressurized, and that the venturi will see more fuel for a proper a/f ratio. I have yet to figure out where to get the turbo. I will be constructing the manifold/tubing myself. These guys were able to do it: Two stroke engine with turbo

Anyways, here is how it looked... not too bad. The carb was really gummed up and the muffler was plugged.

Teardown begins:

Ported the exhaust port, as well as the intake a tad. I need to find a pressurized carburetor for a blow-through application, but in the meantime, I am just going to mess around with this one. I got all the dried 2-cycle oil out of the passageways with carb cleaner and compressed air.

When I removed the emissions screw cover, I found there was no HI speed adjustment for the jet, just idle. Not the best of carburetors.

Polished and cleaned the muffler, changed the spark arrest.

The cylinder and piston had very minimal scoring which is surprising, so I just installed new rings and reassembled everything with (mostly) new gaskets. Here's how it looks now:

And here is a video:

Still trying to figure out where to get a properly sized turbine and compressor. Maybe a Smart :giggle:

I can't believe you have a build thread for a weed whacker, lol.

This is the next video for me. '

Fuck it...

Cummins diesel. You should not have a problem finding one at the junk yard.

Turbo won't work to well with a two stroke it'll just blow the mixture out the exhaust without significantly increasing the cylinder pressure. So you get a big increase in fuel consumption with almost no power increase.

I'll bet that Vespa is ear-splitting when it goes by.

Two-stroke turbo engines are pretty common in large diesels. The one I have seen first hand (425 HP in a military vehicle) was a Detroit V8 with a supercharger and a turbo in series.

Get a garrett gt12
TurboByGarrett.com - Catalog

Then add a trigger wheel, injector, and microsquirt.

I have seen a turbo charged 2 stroke snowmobile before.

Smart car turbo. It's beyond tiny and available on ebay for $130 or so. Compressor wheel is like 16mm or something stupid.

Build a powered r/c grill. Buy a small Weber grill and set up some wheels on the legs and rig this little guy up to it. Set up a simple steering system and buy a universal r/c controller. I don't think a turbo is going to work too well, so might as well do something funny.
