Talking Rick's Yunosu of destiny

Well now I have been sufficiently abused in my ‘meet and greet’ thread, the next step is to do a build thread…

The car is a 1989 Eunos and was bog stock when I bought it, and a little unloved and tatty.

The aim is to have a nice reliable 250hp track car at the end of it.

It’s fairly early days so far, as I am still messing about with the chassis and trying to get it rust free and sexy so I don’t have to crawl about underneath it unnecessarily. That is almost done with after some RUSTY *** bolts, swearing, and some dinitrol.

to

etc

Right now, I'm just in the process of pushing out the bushes in the subframe/wishbones, having them all shot and galvanized and painted and then reinstalled with ES stuff.

Also, a torsen, yay.

Once that is all back in and happy, GAZ Gold Pros will be fitted as they are apparently fricking awesome and will no doubt be much better than my ability will require on track.

At some point, I will also paint it again so it is one colour instead of various shades of sun faded pink.

yes, I'm sorting that right out.

I've got one of those neat little offset plate do-dads that bolt onto the tow hook.

One of the jobs I had set aside while the car was in bits was to sort out the bonnet (or hood, or whatever you lot call it over there).

After reading up about it on here, I now know that I need to cut a hole in it and put in a vent there or else the world will end.

So after trying to find a cheap way of getting one of those carbontrix vents, this popped up on the UK forums…

its Garage Vary, but more like Garage Sexy amirite?

It looks like the vent is in the right place judging by all the pics I’ve seen on here of DIY vents.

Has/is anyone else used/using one of these? Are they as awesome as they look? Or did I just waste money on some prettys where just an angle grinder would do the trick?

I've no idea on weight saved at this point. It's real light, but then I guess the stock bonnet isn't a fatty..

Pretty sure that's a good design, that's been used successfully by a few people. As long as the quality is good enough for you, just clean, sand, paint, clear coat, buff, polish, wax, mount, and align.

The quality is great as with all the other Vary stuff I've seen. I'll get some better pics once its ready for paint etc.

I'm going to paint the whole car with some satin rustoleum as it will cost me Ł30 to do the entire car. Painting it should be a cinch.

Right, I just spent the best part of the morning refitting the back end after having it all appart and (to my gf's dismay) all over the house in various stages of repair.

I feel enlightened. like i have achieved a great goal. i feel wonderful, like a new man. i also swore a lot as the diff is ******* HEAVY OMG.

all the poly bushes are in, all the zerks work, Flyin'Miata roll bar is in along with polybushings/zerks.

every single bolt and nut has been replaced. the alignment bolts are all new from mazda. where possible, ive upgraded the bolts to at least 8.8 grade zinc coated bolts and nyloc nuts.

all i need to do now is finish off rebuilding the hubs...

anyway, photos.

Nice, I like your attention to detail with stuff like the hardware replacement. I'm also jelly of your hood find. I'd love to get my hands on a GV hood for an NB What did you use for rear diff bushings?

I also see no shots of the engine compartment nor roadmap for turbonator...

Keep up the good work!

I hadn't realised I never mentioned that. They are the MMR mounts. So are basically made of sedimentary rock.

The hardware swap was more for the corrosion resistance over strength. I had such a bastard of a time undoing and removing bits that I decided early on all the parts that get wet will be stainless and zinc coated. I've also got anti seize in all the sleeves as I had to take the uprights to Mordor to get the long bolts out. I don't plan on breaking it down any time soon but 'do it right, do it once' and all that.

Engine is bone stock 1.6 gayjew. I had a fm tubby kit to go in, but sold it as I decided to go 1.8. Abe will hook me up with some sexy when I'm ready.

I want to get the car handling perfect before focusing on the engine/power.
