Default 1994 Mazda Miata - $6500

Category: Import
Status: Clean Title

I have a 1994 Mazda Miata for sale, in USA - New York.

Mileage: 159000 miles
VIN: JM1NA3538R0500752
Engine Size: 1.8

Asking price is $6500

If you asked me one year ago I would’ve laughed at the idea of selling this car, but priorities change and I’ve realized I’ve got more important things going on in life right now. Firstly I’m moving to an urban, not-car friendly area. Secondly I’m going back to college. I’m going to need the extra cash so I need to cut down on non-essentials, and unfortunately this qualifies. I’m not in a rush to sell this, at least not yet, but I figured I’d put this out there now so that it’s one less thing to worry about. Sigh.... Ok here goes:

‘94 Miata C-package white/tan 159k miles.

History:
When I bought this car 5 years ago with 146k miles it was somewhat neglected, but overall in solid shape. First things I did was replace the engine with a super clean 100k mile motor, have it repainted, and then recovered the seats. From that point on it was one upgrade after another until I ended up with a quick, good looking, nice driving toy. I haven’t done terribly much to it lately because I was pretty satisfied with what I’d accomplished. I’ve put at most 3k miles on it a year, and it’s been garage kept for the entire time I’ve had it. It looks brand new. Not a scratch or door ding on it. The only cosmetic imperfection is the garage vary lip which got broken on a nasty dip in the road that I didn’t see about a month ago. Believe me I was pissed.

Upgrades/Mods:
-HKS turbo manifold
-Garrett GT2554
-Hallman MBC controllable from cabin
-FC RX-7 550CC injectors.
-Autometer boost and EGT gauges
-Innovate LC-1AFR gauge
-Megasquirt PNP upgraded to MS2-extra
-Bell Engineering coolant reroute kit
-custom made (by me) A/N hoses for turbo oil/coolant
-custom made (by me) FMIC/piping & BOV setup. (nothing fancy here. CX racing parts that I put together myself, it’s been holding up fine)
-Custom 2.25” SS downpipe, Cobalt cat-back exhaust (still running factory cat)
-Exedy stage 1 clutch (not even 4,000 miles on this)
-Tein S-type springs, Tokico illumina struts, FCM bump stops (rides quite comfortably)
-Wilwood adjustable proportioning valve
-Catskinz perforated leather in factory tan color, both upgraded to heated seats
-2000 Miata Nardi steering wheel and airbag (horn and airbag working)
-OZ 15” (Superleggera? Ultraleggera? Cant remember..) lightweight wheels
-some Japanese air horns (not some ghetto *** air horns, they sound like a normal car’s horns, just loud)
-E-code headlights (forget which brand, it’s been a while)
-Clarion CD/MP3 deck with Sirius tuner
-Sony 6.5” door speakers, upgraded headrest speakers

I’m probably forgetting something but I’ve got most of the main points covered.

Repairs/Maintainance:
-Outer tie rods
-Upper ball joint boots (front end is TIGHT)
-Very recent (less than 3,000 miles ago) alignment
-Sumitomo HTR200 tires. Front tires have about 10k miles on them, rears have about 1k miles on them. Pretty much brand new.
-All fluids changed. Trans and rear end running synthetic.
-Timing belt, water pump, and pretty much every seal on the motor has been replaced.
-Windshield
-Brakes in good shape
-Top replaced last year. Vinyl no-zip glass window
-BRAND NEW airbag control module installed last year.

Good points:
-Good, solid ride. Tracks perfectly straight. No 65mph shimmy
-Very good, driveable street tune. Gets 28mpg
-Trans shifts perfectly, no grinding whatsoever
-Engine doesn’t burn any oil. Oil stays clean too
-Everything works. Heat, A/C, power antenna, power windows, cruise control, airbag.
-Top doesn’t leak
-A/C blows cold like a ****, but most probably wont care about that.

Bad points:
-Top “needs help” lowering. The rearmost bow doesn’t move freely and top material gets caught in between the two bows when lowering. I have no idea why this happens. Two hands are needed to get the top down (but it still can be done while sitting in the car)
-Startup tune (esp. cold weather) could be better. I haven’t had the time to mess with it, but suffice it to say it can be a little cranky to start cold.
-Idle compensation for A/C could be improved. I’ve gotten it somewhat decent, but on really hot days, suddenly coming off the throttle might stall the engine.
-D/S door lock cyl a little worn out.

That’s really it. I’d really love for you to take a look at the car yourself because there may be something I’m forgetting to mention. Really it’s a great car to see in person and to drive. I’m asking $6500 for it. I’m willing to work a little, but I will flat-out ignore any retarded low-ball offers. Like I said I’m not in a hurry. NO I WILL NOT TAKE ANY TRADES. UNLESS YOU’RE WILLING TO TRADE ME 1 YEAR TUITION.

I have many more pics if needed, and when I get the chance I'll take some more recent ones, although this is pretty much what it looks like now.

Driven during the winter? Sure, occasionally. But never if there was any salt on the ground and certainly not in the snow. I lost my last car to rust so I was seriously paranoid about this. This was originally a Florida car, then the PO had it in Virginia. I don't think this car has ever seen snow/salt. As such there is NO rust on it. Nasty winters like last year, the car sat in the garage practically until spring.

And now for some somewhat useless pics. It's kinda hard to get the opportunity to take pics of the car in the daylight so I just snapped some from the garage. Mostly just to show how straight the body is.

This is the Garage Vary lip that I broke last month. The only real flaw on the car. Still very pissed off about it.

Any issues in swapping the steering wheel? I am thinking of doing mine if I don't get a momo instead.

Airbag & horn wiring needed to be modified. Basically you re-use the connector of your original airbag. It was rather straightforward though from what I remember.

I've never had it dynoed but I would feel safe saying it's making an honest 175hp at the wheels.

I'm interested in your car, but was wondering if you ever got your high temp problems resolved?

Yes the belly pan/shroud and re-adding the second fan made quite a difference.
