1991 Mazda Miata - $35000
Category: Import
Status: Clean Title
I have a 1991 Mazda Miata for sale, in USA - Washington.
Asking price is $35000
In the interest of freeing up funds (and garage space) for my next even bigger money sink, an SSM Elise, I'm putting my SSM Miata up for sale for real, not just as a ragequit like last time.
I've slowly hand-built this car over the past 3 years. While the price list makes me cry, what it doesn’t even take into account is things like 50+ hours into handcrafting the front wiring harness to be custom modified for sequential ignition/fueling, built-in wiring for the 04 ABS, removed A/C wiring down to the last relay, etc. I’ve essentially gone over every wire in the car and seen whether it’s needed for SSM legality/running the car or not.
It’s hard to figure out where to begin to describe the car. If you’ve never driven a top-tier SSM car, it’s hard to even relate. At a hair over 2000 lbs and over 360 at the wheels, you’re traction limited through first gear, and even in second gear unless it’s warm out on fresh tires.
Really, I could spend untold paragraphs going over the details of the build, but if you’re even vaguely interested, it’s probably best if you just contact me to go over details you’re interested in personally. I’ve found I have surprisingly few pictures of the car, so I’ll add more pictures when I have time to pull the car off the trailer and take a ton of random detail pictures. You can see a lot of history of the build at http://www.destinationssm.com/. I’ve also maintained intricate details of the build on a wiki at http://www.destinationssm.com/wiki/, which is worth its weight in gold to a new buyer on a car like this.
As you will see from the build list below, I have 55k into the car, not even taking into account a ton of miscellaneous expenses along the way (the list is only the bigger-ticket items.) While it may be optimistic, I think I can part the car out for around 45k, with much patience. However, I’m some combination of lazy and wanting this to go to someone who would keep running it, so I’m going to give it a couple months to try selling it as a whole at $35k firm before I dismantle it and part it out or build a track car out of it or something stupid (for my finances) like that.
Even if you’re going to build a time attack car, this is still a screaming deal for a turnkey build that’s ready to race, well-sorted, and makes a pile of power. It also comes with a stupidly large pile of misc spares.
Post here, PM, or Email me with any questions. If interested, I’m happy to go over details on the phone as well. The car is currently in Bellevue, WA.
Blue is pump gas, green is E85. Since this dyno, I’ve upped the pulley ratio by around 5%, so there’s even more power now.
It even works as a street car, if you don’t mind having no radio!

As someone who has built a very similar car, I can tell you David is asking WAYYYYY too little for this car.
Having ran against David and this car I can assure you that you would not be disappointed.
If you live out east and want to experience what this car is like, but cant make a trip out west before you buy it...give me a shout and I'll let you take a ride in mine.

I've spent the last few days completely dismantling the car. Feel free to peruse my partout thread if you want a piece of the action. ;-)
