1992 Mazda MX-5 Miata Turbo with New Engine
20 Attachment(s)
This listing is for my 1992 Turbo Miata with a 5 speed manual. It's a blisteringly fast turbo miata with a fresh motor that was professionally dyno tuned and puts down 211rwhp/217rwtq.
I built the car to be a solid/livable street car while also being a monster on the track. I just have too many toys/projects and not enough time to enjoy them so reluctantly I'm putting this up for sale. No expense was spared in building this car and every component is top quality. Since time is my limiting factor, I'm looking to sell the car as it currently sits and won't be parting it out at this time. Condition Exterior 6/10 Interior 8/10 Mechanical 10/10 Engine/Drivetrain - 211rwhp/217rwtq Freshly rebuilt 1.6L LNC engine - all OEM parts/specs, all new gaskets and oil/water pumps, and less than 500 miles on the new build ARP head studs Megasquirt MSPNP2 with USB connector cable in center console BEGi S4 turbo kit with tubular manifold and Garrett 2554R turbo Braided stainless turbo oil and coolant lines Turbosmart manual boost gauge Electronic boost gauge behind dash, but not currently wired in - manual works great so didn't bother Aluminum turbo heat shield 420cc RX-8 PNP injectors Front mount intercooler (FMIC) rated to 300rwhp K&N air filter Custom high-flow turbo-back exhaust Mishimoto Aluminum race radiator and dual fans AC and Power Steering removed 5-Speed manual transmission FlyinMiata Level 1 Clutch/Flywheel Happy Meal with light weight flywheel (10.3 lbs) rated at 318 lb/ft torque NA8 Torsen LSD differential Suspension/Handling FlyinMiata suspension kit with Tokico Illumina adjustable shocks and FM springs TRMotorsport C1M 15x7 wheels with Dunlop Direzza 205/50R15 tires - less than 1000 miles on set Sport brake conversion kit from a 2002 with upgraded rotors/pads Rubber coated FM underbody frame rails Hard Dog double-diagonal hardcore roll bar with welded in harness bar Boss Frog door bars - not currently installed, but can include with car for a small fee Interior/accessories Black soft top in great condition Complete and great condition black leather interior Like-new seats (probably the best you've ever seen in an NA miata) Driver's seat has foamectomy to help with headroom a bit Black leather steering wheel cover Boost and AFR gauges - Space for 3rd gauge, currently has plastic cap on it (not shown in pictures) JVC bluetooth stereo New/upgraded speakers and wiring Shorty powered antenna USB cable for Megasquirt hidden in arm console and accessible through opening behind cup holders (see pictures) E-code headlight conversion Gas hood strut to remove hood prop bar Low profile license plate mount to prevent disrupting airflow into intercooler/radiator Full disclaimer: There are a few dings/dents on the body paneling, I didn't intend for it to be a show car Previous owner repainted the car, but the door jams/trunk/engine bar are still the original white Glove box removed for access to wiring and electronic boost gauge behind dash - glove box included with car B-pillar trim pieces not installed - trim pieces included, but need to be trimmed around roll bar before installation Current seat belts are tan, but I have a set of like-new black seat belts that will go with the car for free Additional pictures available on request. No trades at this time. I'm happy to provide a test ride, but will need cash in hand for a test drive. Price: $7900 |
Blisteringly fast...monster on the track...no expense spared...
1.6...stock rods and pistons...2554...420cc RX8 injectors...illumina shocks...stock seats...direzza tires on 7" c1m's... Ok. Free bump. |
Yeah... I'm gonna take a mulligan, forgot where I was posting... Sorry guys, I literally copied and pasted the ad from m.net and clist which was stupid considering this is home to the most insane turbo miata monsters. Let me set the record straight and clarify.
It's not blisteringly fast, more like a gentle heat. It's a rocket compared to a stock naturally aspirated 1.6, but then again so is a turtle with one foot in the grave. It's very responsive and safely puts down respectable power for the current setup, but it doesn't hold water to a 300+hp monster. The turbo was originally selected for autox so the spool is great and on the 1.6 it does fine, but it's not going to put down insane power. It's not a monster on the track, but it is extremely fun to drive. Could this be a competitive race car without putting a ton of money/time into it? Absolutely not, but it would be fun for autox, HPDE, street driving, etc... It would benefit from more cooling mods like a reroute, ducting, and oil cooler along with wider/sticky tires to really put down decent times, but you can have some fun with it as is. Expenses were spared. Yes, many of them. It has legit parts like the tubular S4 Begi manifold and a Garrett turbo vs a china-charger, but clearly it could be a much higher dollar build. The motor is basically new, but with stock internals. I didn't anticipate going above 210-220hp/tq so I didn't see the point in upgrading the internals, but you would want to at least do rods if not pistons and rods if you want to crank the boost up much more. Bottom line, it's not a hacked together piece of junk with garbage parts, but it's definitely not a crazy high-dollar build. Thanks for the free bump and for keeping me honest. Hopefully this is a bit more accurate, but I would appreciate feedback from you guys either way. If I can't get decent money out of it, I'm either going to swap the turbo setup over to my Exocet and sell this one as a naturally aspirated car or keep it as-is and finish the cooling/track mods to go have more fun with it. I'm just getting a lot of flak from the wife for having so many cars so I'm trying to thin the herd. Thanks! |
It's a good build, nothing wild, but all the parts selected are of good quality and it will be a fun street/autox/mild track car.
211hp is more than double stock power, and lots of fun. and America is a pretty big country, would be good to know where the car is located. as for worth $11k? I donno. Fully built engine, EFR turbo. Xidas... etc cars have trouble selling for that much. |
Appreciate the feedback and fair point on the price comparison, I just removed it from the listing. How's my asking price? I've never sold a turbo miata before so I just tossed out what I thought was fair. The car is located in Richmond, VA. Thanks!

I think that's maybe a 5-6k car. You'd get the most out of it if you parted out the turbo stuff and tried to sell that separately. Demand for the 1.6 turbo stuff isn't crazy stateside, but some folks still end up going that route because it's cheaper. Then sell the car as a back to stock car with a refreshed motor.

Thanks for the info guys! I've had a few people message and one person go so far as to arrange the purchase then back out a few hours before we were supposed to meet, but it's not sold yet. I'll reduce the price slowly for a bit and see if that helps. Ultimately, I'll probably end up taking the advice to pull the turbo parts and sell them separate from the car. I definitely think parting out the upgrades and selling the car closer to stock would bring more money, but I don't have the time to do the work right now and my wife is all over me to get rid of the car this season...
Anyway, price reduced to $7400 OBO |
You can always put it on bring a trailer if you want to get a bunch of attention to it. Might move, might not.
May also want to put it up on mnet. |
Sold! Thanks for all the help and advice guys. I have a 1995 Exocet that I’m debating putting a turbo on so you may see a fun build thread for that coming soon and I’ll undoubtedly have tons of questions for the boost gurus! :) |
