1997 Mazda Miata - SOLD

Category: Import
Status: Clean Title

I have a 1997 Mazda Miata for sale, in USA - Virginia.

Mileage: 155k miles
Engine Size: 1.8 Turbo

Car is sold

I've come across a great deal on a dream car and must let my Miata go in order to get the other car. It's a well-sorted 1997 Montego Blue with Hard Top and 6-speed. There's no lien on the car.

Several years ago, TurboTim (Absurdflow) built the kit with GT2560R turbo, custom manifold. It put down 275whp/244tq at a Miata dyno day. Since then, I've switch throttle bodies and gone full stand alone w/ MegaSquirt 3. Braineack has tuned the car and it runs great.

Here's what the car has:

-Engine/drivetrain-
99 head - mild pnp, upgraded valve/springs
MSM Intake Cam
VICS IM
custom exhaust manifold (Absurdflow)
3" exhaust
Upgraded Mishimoto radiator
front mount intercooler
TurboXS BOV (vent to atmosphere)
BEGI coolant reroute kit
oil catch can
6-speed with stock 97 Torsen LSD
Walbro 225 lph fuel pump
99 fuel rail
ACT or FMII Clutch (sorry, I don't recall)

-Engine Management and gauges-
MegaSquirt v3 (built and tuned by Braineack)
AEM Wideband O2 sensor and gauge
Defi Oil Pressure
Defi Boost gauge
(these three gauges are mounted on the left A-pillar)

-Interior-
Very good condition - black dash, tan carpet and seats. Seats were reskinned w/ vinyl ("pleather") and show wear on the side bolsters where I enter the car. Removed some foam (foamectomy)
Hard Dog double deuce roll bar
Soft top works (currently folded down) but the zipper is ripped. It will zip and keep out rain while driving. I haven't replaced it b/c I've left the hard top (excellent condition factory w/ defrost) on for the past couple of years.
Aftermarket crappy head unit CD player. It does have nice speakers including upgraded head rest speakers (Infinity Kappas) and an Alpine amp (trunk mounted).

-Exterior-
Body is in good condition. It's got some dents/dings, scuffs, and show rocker panel rust. Montego Blue in color (so is the hard top).
Mazdaspeed front lip installed.
Brakes: new pads/rotors/fluid (Hawk HP+/stock rotors/Motul RBF600)

-Extras-

949 Racing bushings. I replaced all and then went back to factory bushings (new) for the rear diff. The NVH was a bit unbearable for me.

Mazdaspeed motor mounts.

Suspension is worn Konis with Ground Control coilovers (500/350). I was going to install Xidas, but decided to get another car so will not be upgrading the suspension. It does have a big Jackson Racing front bar (solid about 1"), no rear.

I've got 2 sets of wheels: 15x7 Team Dynamics painted a dark BMW grey with 85% tread Toyo RA1s (225). The other set is 6 7spokes (5 have tires, but need replacing). They are mostly ugly and could use a paint job...but are yours to shod with winter tires. I would recommend Blizzaks.

The car has cold, working A/C.
It also has Power Steering and ABS.

Please feel free to contact me with questions. Braineack and TurboTim did a fantastic job with the car. Unfortunately, I can't keep 2 fun cars and an FFR Cobra came up for cheap. I'm pulling the trigger on that now, so must get rid of the Miata.

If I were to buy my Miata, this is what it would need (for a new owner):

Suspension - After talking to Emilio at 949 Racing, I recommend the Xidas with 800/500 and a big front sway bar. It's a $2500 investment.

Soft top some day. You'll want a zippered one that can fit under the double-deuce roll bar.

Maybe a new seat. I've got a practically new Sparco that you could have. You would just need to get someone to mount rails. I was going to have a friend remove the stock slider rail and weld it onto the Sparco (maybe a plate in between). Just never got around to it.

Rust - I would address the rockers in the next couple of years. Just didn't get around to it. It's got "popcorning" which is common with NA Miatas.

Hella Supertone horns (one is tired and semi-works). I have the 118db ones and would spend the $70 and get a new pair.

Maybe invest in a better head unit or shift knob. Minor things.

So, if I were to keep it, I would address the rust and suspension. Possibly a new top, but I rarely use it.

Please feel free to contact me.

I keep telling Scott he's crazy for not buying this car like yesterday.

Braineack 06-26-2013 12:33 PM

I thought you had the FMII clutch...

Doh...I can't recall. I thought I ordered it through Andrewtech. It's one or the other.

I will also vouch that this car is a blast to drive.

Also hit the "sold" button up top and lock this thread up or you'll have n00bs contacting you 5 years from now asking if the car is still available.

A local IIRC. whomever it was got one hell of a deal, like for reals.
