1999 ST6/TT6 Miata - Full cage, ready to race - SOLD

This car has been my project for the last ten years, but the time has finally come to put it up for sale. This is a well-developed, competitive ST6/TT6 car that won the AZ regional TTE championship in 2015. It is very forgiving at the limit, and can be adjusted to suit a range of driving styles via the ride height, roll bars and dampers. I have ten years of records of all maintenance and modifications, as well as a log of all track time over that period. Want to know how many track hours are on the rear hubs? How many miles are on the spark plugs? All of that can be found in the Excel spreadsheet below. There are no question marks with this car.

The chassis is a 1999 California-emissions model, VIN: JM1NB3530X0124025 with 135,400 miles and a clean AZ title. The chassis is straight and rust-free with numbers-matching motor. There are some scratches and minor body damage (shown in the pictures) here and there due to various on-track incidents over the years, but the car has never been wrecked.

The car's last dyno was in September 2019, where it made 115 whp on a hub dyno (which typically reads about 5-10 whp less than the local Dynojet). At a competition weight of 2250-2300 lbs (currently at ~2350 lbs with driver, 50 lbs ballast and 1/4 tank), the car will be very competitive in ST6/TT6. The motor has a fresh head but still has the factory bottom end. I can't recommend this as a Spec Miata car, as too many mods would have to be removed or redone. Instead, compete in ST6/TT6 now, rebuild the bottom end or drop in a junkyard VVT motor for ST5, or do a K-swap and run in ST4 for relatively few $$.

The only things to watch out for on this car are: the age of the factory bottom end, second gear is getting a little "crunchy" on hard shifts, and since the car has been sitting for about a year, it should probably have all fluids changed. The Maxxis tires only have about 4 heat cycles but are over a year old, so they may not be super fast.

Price is $14,900 cash for the car and listed extras, or $15,900 with the trailer. Car is located in Phoenix, AZ. I'm willing to meet/deliver within 200 mi or work with the shipping company of your choice. Email me at az.st6miata@gmail.com

That's a really well-sorted car to jump into ST6/TT6 and other series. GLWS!

Definitely a reputable seller.

I'll be sad if this thing leaves AZ...

Emilio, thanks for linking this over. I read through the discussion over there - yes, I think that it needs a fresh bottom end to make the power needed for SSC. Or just drop in a junkyard VVT motor - as you know, it would require minimal wiring to get the VVT up and running with the MS3.

Regarding the trailer, it's not pretty, but I can get some pics  Should I just email them to you?

I'm not interested in buying, just trying to help find a home for it. Pics of trailer would help.

Not trying to make your life difficult, but 14.9 for a car that needs a new bottom end is going to be a challenge. Healthy US junkyard VVT motors are pretty rare these days. Gotta import one from Japan or UK and even then it's a crap shoot. In Cali, that car would go for, um.. less. Several S2/SSC/ST6 race ready cars have changed hands for less in the last 4 years. Maybe do some more price research. Remember, what you have in to it is irrelevant, as painful as that news might be. It's what a buyer has to spend to make it race ready compared to other cars for sale, that dictates the price.

Thanks Emilio, I do appreciate the feedback actually. Feel free to PM me if you have some ideas on where you think it should be priced! The price here is based on a couple of recent local sales, and I'm certainly open to offers on it. It's also ready to race in ST6 and should be pretty competitive there.

emilio700 11-18-2020 12:43 PM

Pricing is regional I think. Could swing 3k either way depending on what state. Car appears solid, well sorted, good parts and ready to go. The bottom end though, according to your description, is ready for a rebuild. So any comparisons with similar cars should probably factor that in. If you have a fresh short block available, you might consider putting it in and redynoing. Would probably make another 30whp on E85 which would make your asking price more attractive. Fresh NB1 with your parts list oi E85 will make 150whp. That's sexier than 115whp.
