95 MP62 Miata

Alright things are changing and I am going a different route with my miata/racing goals. I have built this car over the last 5 years and I can finally feel comfortable saying it is "done". Car is a 95 with 68,XXX miles, it goes up as I am driving it. I know I know this is miataturbo and therefore superchargers are sin but here we go anyway.
Mods: 15x8 Jongbloed with 225 RS3s 949 Racing Big Grip Kit 700 front 400 rear spring rates (including bushings and sways) Rear Differential bushings 4.10 Torsen Jackson Racing header Roadster sport 2 exhaust Koyo 37mm radiator TDR Intercooler BRP MP62 with 6 rib autotensioner DIYPNP Megasqurt Flyin Miata Butterfly brace Frog Arms New Alignment bolts at time of build last year (corner weighted and autocross alignment) Tuned by Ken HIll putting down 235 whp and 197 ftlbs RX7 460 cc injectors Others: Factory Hard top 949 15x9s with 225 Hoosier A7s Spare 6 Speed 99 cylinder head Price break down: For everything: $13,000 OBO Hardtop: $1,100 OBO (Will only part after car sells) Wheels and Tires: 1,000 OBO 6 Speed: $400 Firm Car: $11,000 OBO 99 cylinder head: $350 ($400 with intake and exhaust header) Supercharger was rebuilt less than 3,000 miles ago. I have all of the receipts/invoices for all new parts bought. I have the previous owners receipts including Torsen install. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me. Nobody interested? Price is OBO of course. I was hoping for a little more feedback from the collective mind here. I know its a supercharger on a turbo site but everything is done right....

The price is way too high; like, not even close. That's the issue. It's a nice car, but I guarantee that's the issue.

So what is a fair price? I am genuinely interested in what people think. It is a low mileage 95 (OBD1) car with a plethora of the right mods (supercharger aside I know people don't like those here). I have detailed documents on the car including previous owners receipts. I have every receipt and pictures from the completed project last year. All parts have less than 3,000 miles on them. The build last year alone is more than I am asking for the car. But please I am curious as to what a fair price is? If the answer is mods don't add value please move along, give what you believe to be a fair estimate.

the car looks very well built. A very functional selection of parts for performance. I wouldn't change a thing on the car.
The right buyer looking for the exact same mods might be willing to meet your asking price but it is unlikely. It's hard to get close to what you put into the car back when you sell it. If you have enough of the stock pieces a partial part out would be your best option to recoup most of your cost. |
I am not asking close to what I have into the car. Asking price is closer half of total investment. I understand parting out may get me more money but after having built the car I don't think I could undo my work. I would be happier to keep driving it rather than parting it out. I appreciate the feedback. I know finding the right buyer will prove to be difficult which is ok, hasn't even been for sale a month and I really do enjoy driving it.

Does that include labor costs? I don't think there's ever any way to recoup labor cost. Typically, you're lucky if you can even get a substantial return on parts costs alone. Not saying it's right, but there it is. :dunno: That said, I totally agree with the sentiment of not wanting to undo your work. |

My intentions were not to take anything away from the quality of the build, nor the money spent on building it. However, whenever these conversations evolve into mention of "The Right Buyer", you can be sure the price is in fact too high. We've all been there; I spent $12k (in parts alone) building a 320hp Mazdaspeed Protege, and sold the car 2 years later for $6,800. Good luck though, it seems like a thoughtfully built car.
