Blackbird Fabworx "Creampuff" time attack special

Chassis / safety:
  • 2002 Chassis, as straight and clean as they come
  • Blackbird Fabworx 20+ point well gusseted cage, low front hoop design, spans to all 4 shock towers, includes jacking points for easy jacking with flat bottom, removable bracing in engine bay for ease of service
  • Lightened in more ways then I can remember, ~1900 Lbs with all the aero!
  • Cage painted in metallic Blue and protected with Helicopter tape to keep it looking nice and shiny for many years to come
  • Integrated lowered / centered / tunnel cut driver seat and harness mounts
  • Cobra Evolution Technology CF driver seat, custom design with embroidered Blackbird Fabworx logo and Carbon textile wear patches upgrade
  • Schroth Hybrid 6 point harness, good until 2022
  • Halon fire system, manual pull
  • Chassis is fully stitch welded
  • Modified rear subframe brace for additional diffuser throat height

Engine / Drivetrain / Electronics:
  • BP4W with Blackbird Fabworx low mount C30-74 Rotrex setup.
  • 275 RWHP / 227 RWTQ on Church dyno @ 14 psi, tuned by Shawn Church on 91 with a splash of 100 race gas.
  • Side mount IC keeps clear air flow to all coolers
  • SuperMiata Crossflow rad, Setrab oil cooler
  • All coolers ducted with fresh air from the nose
  • Trackspeed management setup - Megasquirt MS3 w/ Innovative WB, ID1000X injectors, GM IAT. Flex Fuel sensor included but not plumbed or wired in.
  • AEM CD-7L dash w/ vehicle dynamic module (VDM)
  • 6 Speed w/ Miata Roadster shifter
  • ACT Prolite flywheel and 4 puck clutch
  • 4.3 Torsen
  • Racing Beat header
  • Custom set of Blackbird Fabworx motor mounts relocate the engine both lower and to the passenger side for improved weight balance

Suspension / Brakes:
  • Blackbird Fabworx spec Penske 8300 remote reservoir DAs, valved by Guy Ankeny.
  • Relocated rear shock towers are an integrated part of the roll cage, extending rear travel by 2"+ so that the car can ride low and have more rear droop than any Miata on shortened shocks, keeps the rear tires on the ground where every other Miata lifts them.
  • Stoptech STR-42 front brakes with SS piston nose and full floating rotor upgrades
  • Stoptech ST-21 rear brakes
  • Hypercoil 1400 / 700 springs w/ helpers
  • Braided SS brake lines
  • Custom Speedway 3 piece FSB, spherical end links, control arm attachment point converted to double sheer
  • Energy Suspension poly bushings w/ Trackspeed engineering sleeve bearing kit
  • Front shock towers cut / reshaped / welded for added tire clearance
  • 1 day old Mazda hubs front and rear with ARP studs pressed in
  • Singular front brake ducts
  • Depowered rack

Aero / Body:
  • Blackbird Fabworx mega downforce ~90" 3D front splitter, CF / Kevlar / Nomex / foam construction, vacuum bagged
  • Blackbird Fabworx Drag Reduction System (DRS), operated via paddle on the steering wheel wired as a deadman switch (hold to activate, release to deactivate).
Chassis mounted uprights are Aluminum / Titanium / CF construction.
  • The entire nose of the car has been lowered ~4", this required the design and construction of brand new front fenders which are FG / Nomex / CF construction
  • CF / Nomex flat bottom w/ Aluminum center panels for quick service access
  • CF / Aluminum exhaust blown rear diffuser
  • APR Performance 71" GT-1000 w/ Blackbird Fabworx end plates
  • CF / Nomex extended trunk lid with Gurney flap
  • CF / Nomex side skirts with hidden flow block off panels
  • Foot boxes on both sides heavily cut / narrowed by many inches for improved evacuation of air from the front wheel well
  • CF doors, skin only
  • FG headlight covers
  • Full set of top cockpit covers to streamline the top of the car
  • Teardrop Lexan fairings for the hoop and rear legs of the cage to reduce drag
  • Aerocatch hood pins
  • 2 days old 949 Racing 15x10 6UL with brand new 245/40R15 Hoosier A7s (stickers)
  • Sparco steering wheel w/ NRG 2.5 QR
  • Twin camera mount installed on the cage (so you can run front and rear facing cameras)
The list above represents a build that took years to get to this point and several thousands of labor hours.
The asking price does not even cover the cost of the parts alone, let alone any of the labor involved, replicating this build in full charge labor hours will easily exceed $175K.
It's not perfect and there are a couple of small things that the buyer will want to do before hitting the local track, call it "almost turnkey".
It is however, built to go FAST and with the right hands behind the wheel will deliver excellent lap times, much faster than 275 WHP will suggest.

Asking $32,500 OBO, will consider any reasonable offer.

Thanks for looking!

Hope the new owner keeps social media presence. Would like to see what this car is capable of. Really cool if it stays in SoCal.
Seminal car in the Miataverse. Bummed it never ran a fully dialed, good weather lap on BW 13CW on 245 Hoosiers. Easy 1:45 car me thinks.
Always hard to make the decision and part with these complex project cars but one has to remain forward looking.

Thanks, E.
Yeah, tough decision that I've been sitting on for a while.
I, too, hope that the car stays around so that I can see it fulfilling the vision I had for it, maybe even be able to continue to innovate and support if the new owner so desires, because even right now there's more stuff in the shop sitting on the shelf that was destined to this car.
