FS: 2001 Turbo Miata - TSE Built Engine/ Turbo Kit, Roll Cage - Cars & Bids ends 5/21
Selling my turbo track car on Cars & Bids. I finished this car a few months ago...just as I realized I don't need a dedicated track car since I'm down to 2-3 events per year. I would love to see it stay in the MiataTurbo family.
Thank you! I had planned to paint this car a crazy color (something out of the Porsche color book; they have the best colors) but the original white paint was just too nice. Instead I figured I'd just add some color through the carpet/ numbers/ etc. The color is a nod to my old NA (pictured).

Thank you! I built that NA over the course of 15 years and had a lot of sentimental attachment to it. A friend of mine mostly built this white NB and I drooled over the quality of his build, so when it came up for sale I made the tough decision to part ways with my mint green NA.
I’m curious how this does on C&B…in the couple years I’ve been surfing that site, track cars and race cars never seem to do that well.
GLWS!
Thanks! And agreed that track cars don't usually do well on the auction sites. I thought long and hard about it before listing there, so now I guess I just sit back and see what happens. I'm okay if it doesn't bring top dollar - would love it to go to someone that will put it to good use.
Two days left in the auction and the car is still very much in "good deal" territory with a current high bid of $12,600. Feel free to reach out if any of you have questions. Thanks!
Correct. There seems to be a lot more interest in individual parts than there does in the car as a whole. My math tells me the car is worth close to $30k in pieces unless I'm just way off base with the value of these parts (attached).

"Worth." I guess it depends on how you value your time. This isn't meant as a criticism, I have no opinion! Just saying it's a whole lot more work to part a car out. Genuinely hoping you find a buyer at a price both parties can feel good about!

Absolutely - and fully appreciate the input. I don't have a ton of free time, so that is definitely a consideration. I'm not going to tear into it just yet; still hoping I can find a buyer for the complete car.
It's a beautiful car and I hate to say this, but if I was in your position, I'd be parting the thing out to get the most cash back in return. Given how familiar you probably are with the miata chassis, you are talking about spending ~8 hours to get the car down to that rolling chassis level. 8hrs well spent for the likely $10k+ more you'll get from it.
You might consider contacting the $18k buyer and see if his/her offer still stands. That's a great price for modified/race Miata. At least around here, they're very difficult to sell if they're highly modified. We had a gorgeous K-swap track car for sale for $20k for a year or two, customer had around $45k into it. Finally agreed to part it out, the market just isn't there, and this is coming from someone (not me) that buys/sells cars very often. We did it with a '01 track car earlier in the year, wanted $9k, ended up getting $14k after parting it out.
Yeah, pretty much the only heavily modified Miatas I've seen go for much over $20K are the FM-built V8 cars and some EP Miata race cars.

well put together LS miatas (regardless of who built them) seem to commonly fetch $30-40k on BAT the last few years that I've been watching. FM-built ones have a very specific cult premium haha. In comparison, running/driving kmiatas are worth half of that at best... heavily modified vehicle markets are weird to play in.

I'm picking up what you are putting down. I've parted several Miatas before and it wasn't a huge investment of time or energy. When I parted out my mint green turbo car the guy that bought the roller ended up buying a ton of the parts too - rollbar, hardtop, XIDAs, etc, so that reduced the level of effort & number of transactions.

I appreciate the input. And it definitely doesn't surprise me that a car that didn't sell for $9k sold for $14k in parts. I would love to keep this car in one piece, and wouldn't be bothered by leaving $3k on the table if I can forego a part out, but it's hard to justify a $10k difference between outright sale and part out.

Sorry to see this went RNM... It's a great build and 'worth' every bit of the reserve price. BAT would probably have been a better market, but they have their own issues, and everything seems to be soft right now... except for Porsches, which are still bringing stupid money. I have seen a few Miata race cars with builds at this level bring respectable $$$ on BAT, but I don't think the market in general is great for sellers right now.
A part out is probably the most effective way to cover the largest percentage of investment, but it always seems to takes forever to sell the last 10% of the parts...
